Konbini Ossan Volume 12 Chapter 3 — Explaining the Situation

Perhaps noticing my surprise, Shirley turned toward me and explained.

“The Village Chief is one of the few people who treated me kindly.”

Hearing that, the Village Chief also spoke.

“Shirley. Your skill, «Spirit Vision», showed us our future… our possibilities. There is no reason for us to cast it aside.”

It seems the Village Chief recognizes Shirley’s skill as something special.

“Now then, honored guest. May I ask your name?”

“Yes. My name is Yūichi Otogi. Shirley is my wife, and this time, since there are matters I wish to ask the Dragon God about, she accompanied me to mediate with the village.”

“Oh? To the Dragon God, no less. That sounds like quite the extraordinary circumstance.”

After that, I explained the details to the Village Chief.

That many heroes, myself included, had been summoned by the Runegard Kingdom.

That through our research into what heroes truly are, we discovered that we appear to be beings closer to monsters.

And therefore, that I wished to ask the Dragon God, who has likely accumulated knowledge about monsters longer than anyone, various questions.

As I explained these matters one by one, the Village Chief wore an increasingly troubled expression.

“Hmm… This is not something I can decide on my own.”

As he spoke, the Village Chief turned his gaze toward Shirley’s father, who had been standing quietly in the corner.

“Savan. Go call one of the shrine maidens.”

“Understood.”

With that, Shirley’s father, Savan, left the room.

“Now then, while Savan is away… would you tell me how Shirley has been living outside the village?”

The Village Chief’s expression softened.

Part of it was surely genuine curiosity about Shirley’s current life, but it was likely also his way of judging my character.

I nodded and began speaking.

“Very well. Then I shall begin with the place where Shirley and I currently live.”

Some time later, after I had finished talking to a reasonable extent about Shirley’s and my private life, Savan returned.

Behind him stood a single woman.

“Village Chief. I have brought the shrine maiden.”

“Well done, Savan.”

The shrine maiden stepped forward and bowed her head to the Village Chief.

“Neel has arrived.”

(E/N: This woman refers to herself in third-person, with her name.)

“Mm. There is a matter upon which we must seek the Dragon God’s counsel.”

With that, the Village Chief explained the circumstances to the shrine maiden, Neel.

During the explanation, Neel occasionally cast sharp glances toward Shirley.

(E/N: Yeah, already hating this "nobody" character 😂)

It seemed she did not think very highly of her.

While there are people like the Village Chief who view Shirley favorably, there are likely others like Neel who resent her.

And most people in the village probably share Neel’s attitude.

“Well then, will you accept this request?”

After finishing his explanation, the Village Chief asked her.

“I accept.”

Far more readily than expected, Neel agreed to serve as a messenger to the Dragon God.

E/N:

A prejudiced society is the worst place to reside. At least village chief is more verbal than Shirley's father…

Anyway, why did I not upload throughout the week? Because, the first interview of my life that I gave sometime last week was a huge failure and I was depressed that I was not selected (I was just being a crybaby)…

It's not that I'm some prodigy irl or a top achiever in my Uni. I have failed many times in life; tests, experiments, competitions. I don't consider myself pampered but… I did have confidence in my communication skills and personality.

The damn interview has become like a dark history in my life so… Yeah, tldr; I felt like a loser and procrastinated in uploading. 😂😅

I'm uploading for this entire week, including Sunday so enjoy! (1/6 chapter)

Stay tuned!
