Konbini Ossan Volume 12 Chapter 2 — Meeting with the Village Chief
The presence that must be the Dragon God’s magical power grows denser the further we proceed.
“Shirley, how are you feeling?”
“Yes, I’m fine. I have this, after all.”
Saying that, Shirley held up a pendant-shaped magic tool.
To prevent her from falling ill due to the Dragon God’s magical power, I had made a magic tool that blocks and reduces the influence of surrounding magic, and had her wear it.
With this, at least while moving around within the village, she should not suffer any physical issues.
Just after that exchange, a group clad in warrior-like equipment appeared in front of our transport vehicle as it slowly moved along the poorly visible forest path.
“Who goes there! Those without permission from the Runegard Kingdom are not allowed to proceed any further! Turn back at once!”
A man in particularly fine equipment, likely their leader, raised his voice.
Seeing this, Shirley looked surprised.
She leaned out of the vehicle window, waved her hand, and called out.
“Father! It’s me, Shirley! I have something I want to talk about!”
At those words, everyone, including their leader and myself, showed surprise on their faces.
“Shirley… is it really you?”
“Yes!”
“...I don’t understand the situation, but wait here for now! I will seek the village chief’s judgment!”
With that, the leader, Shirley’s father, ran alone deeper into the forest.
The remaining warriors seemed wary of us, or rather, of the unfamiliar transport vehicle, and showed no intention of relaxing their sharp gazes or presence.
“It looks like things might work out.”
“I hope so…”
Shirley said that with a smile, as if she were confident.
After a while, Shirley’s father returned.
“I will guide you to the village chief. Leave that magic tool here.”
From their perspective, since they cannot assess the danger of the transport vehicle, this is a natural decision.
We got out of the vehicle and followed Shirley’s father onward.
Before long, we arrived at the Dragon Village.
It appeared to be a settlement surrounded by a simple wooden fence. The buildings also seemed to be made solely from materials obtained from the forest, lacking any sense of modernity.
Led as we were, we passed through a gate without doors and entered the Dragon Village.
As we proceeded deeper, a particularly large building came into view, which seemed to be our destination.
“I have brought the individuals in question.”
As Shirley’s father spoke, the soldier guarding the entrance stepped aside and opened the door.
We passed through and were guided inside.
Waiting there was an elderly man who looked every bit the village chief, dressed in ornaments that appeared to be made from materials gathered within the village.
“Welcome, Shirley. And our guest as well.”
The village chief spoke, welcoming both me and Shirley.
“It’s been a while, Village Chief.”
Shirley responded with a smile, seemingly holding no ill feelings toward him.
