After that, we were told it would take some time before receiving a reply from the Dragon God, so for the time being, we would be staying overnight at Shirley’s family home.
Guided by Savan-dono, we headed toward Shirley’s house.
“Shirley.”
“Yes?”
Along the way, Savan-dono, who had remained silent until now, finally spoke.
“How is life outside the village?”
“Um… I’m living happily. Yūichi-san treats me well, and my work is enjoyable too.”
Shirley spoke with a cheerful smile, clearly meaning those words sincerely.
“I see.”
That was all Savan-dono said.
At his muted reaction, Shirley lowered her head slightly in sadness.
Still, to me, it also looked as though Savan-dono had relaxed his expression in relief for just a moment.
I thought it might be improper to interfere in another family’s affairs, but leaving things as they were did not seem right either.
Just as I was considering saying something, we arrived at Shirley’s home.
“This is our house.”
With that, Savan-dono opened the door and stepped inside.
At the same moment, a woman came rushing out from within the house.
“Shirley!”
“Mother!”
The woman who rushed out appeared to be Shirley’s mother, and she immediately embraced her tightly.
Shirley looked bewildered, but her mother paid it no mind as she spoke to her.
“You’ve grown so much. And you’ve been eating properly too~ Your complexion looks good, and you’ve filled out nicely~”
“Mother! Saying I’ve filled out is rude!”
“Ufufu~, you’re right. My apologies. Shirley is a grown woman now, after all.”
After speaking as though savoring her daughter’s growth, Shirley’s mother turned toward me.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Shirley’s mother, Sierra.”
“My apologies for the late introduction. I am Shirley’s husband, Yūichi Otogi. Thank you for having us today, Sierra-san.”
“Yes. Please make yourselves comfortable.”
Sierra-san appeared to genuinely welcome us.
“If you don’t mind, I’d love to hear about how Shirley has been living outside the village.”
“Yes, of course.”
And so, without any trouble, we were welcomed into the house.
Afterward, while Sierra-san prepared dinner, Shirley and I found ourselves with little to do.
Since we had the time, I thought it would be good to discuss a few things with Shirley.
“Shirley, there’s something I’d like to talk about, if that’s alright?”
“Um, yes. Is it something secret?”
“Well, more or less.”
“Then shall we talk in my room?”
And so, Shirley guided me to her room.
