Konbini Ossan Volume 10 Chapter 12 — Kanzaki Tatsuya
“Kanehama-kun. What kind of relationship do you have with him?”
When I asked, Kanehama gave a wry smile.
“No, it’s nothing much. He’s just holding a grudge because he’s liked my fiancée for a long time.”
“Ah, so he’s shifting the blame for his heartbreak.”
It seemed the grudge was even more trivial than I had imagined.
“I don’t know what the hell you’re yapping about, but you’re the one I’ll never forgive! I’ll kill you!”
Kanzaki charged at us in an excited frenzy, his fists wrapped in «Instant Death Magic» as he swung at Kanehama.
However, as expected, Kanehama vastly outclassed him in stats, and easily handled the attack.
“What should we do, Otogi-san?”
“Let’s see.”
From the looks of it, he wasn’t acting under mental control but was simply targeting Kanehama out of hostility.
“I think it’s fine to just defeat him normally.”
“Right!”
With that, Kanehama counterattacked with his fists instead of his sword.
Kanzaki swung wildly with an amateurish stance, while Kanehama’s movements, honed through training, were precise and efficient.
He drove his fist straight into Kanzaki’s solar plexus.
“Guh!”
Letting out a groan, Kanzaki collapsed to the ground.
“That should be it. Otogi-san, the restraints-”
“No, it seems he’s not done yet.”
Just as Kanehama was about to declare the fight over, it seemed Kanzaki still had some fighting spirit left.
“D-Damn it! You think I’ll lose to you?!”
Forcing himself back up, Kanzaki glared at us.
Kanehama sighed.
“Hey, Kanzaki. Why are you going this far?”
“Shut up! She said it, didn’t she?! No matter what happens, never give up, always stand back up! That she likes guys who are that manly!”
So that was the reason… words spoken by Kanehama’s fiancée.
Rather, it seemed he had misunderstood them as meaning he still had a chance.
But correcting such misunderstandings was, in a way, an adult’s responsibility.
“May I say something?”
“Huh? What the hell do you want?”
Kanzaki shot me a glare, but I continued regardless.
“You’re aiming to become someone who never gives up and always stands back up, correct?”
“So what if I am?”
“It’s not wrong. However, there are a few points that concern me.”
I began pointing out the flaws in his misunderstanding.
“First, most likely, the woman you’re aiming for isn’t saying she likes men who meet those conditions. Rather, she already likes someone, and was simply describing that person’s traits.”
“What?!”
“Also, clinging to someone who has already rejected you isn’t ‘never giving up’. It’s simply pathetic and bothersome, the exact opposite of what you’re aiming for.”
“Guh!”
My words struck him hard, and Kanzaki groaned in shock.
But there was still more to point out.
“And lastly, even if you were to become her ideal ‘manly’ person, you wouldn’t be the only man in the world. There’s no guarantee you’d be chosen, if anything, considering everything else, your chances are essentially zero.”
“Ughaaaaaah!”
Overwhelmed, Kanzaki clutched his head and dropped to his knees.
“N-No way… Are you saying everything I’ve done was meaningless?”
“Of course it was. She’s my fiancée, after all.”
“Gah!”
Kanehama’s words seemed to be the final blow.
Shocked, Kanzaki collapsed completely.
After confirming he made no move to get back up…
“Otogi-san. Please restrain him.”
“Understood.”
At Kanehama’s request, we secured the incapacitated Kanzaki.
Later, we learned the reason he had collapsed.
Apparently, in his shock, he had unconsciously activated «Instant Death Magic» on himself and actually took damage.
Fortunately, his skill also granted resistance to instant death, which prevented the worst outcome.

E/N:
As much as there's no excuse for Kanzaki's behaviour at the same time, as much as I sympathize with him, who got BSS'd (Just Google "BSS Japanese slang", you'll understand)…
Brother was unconsciously trying to "Low-Tier God" himself iykyk… Damn. Love can make and break a man, Q.E.D. (╥﹏╥)
Stay tuned!
