As for the change in my relationship with Saori, we agreed to report it after this war was over.
The next day, Nishina shot me a suspicious glare after noticing Saori’s awkward way of walking, but I feigned ignorance.
With that, we continued advancing toward the capital of the Barometz Duchy.
After the first operation, we encountered the enemy once more, but it seemed they were nearing the limits of their mobilization, as the scale had noticeably shrunk.
From here on, it was expected that resistance would not be as intense.
Then, three days later. Just as we were about to reach the capital, we encountered the final enemy force.
This time, however, it appeared to be fewer in number but composed of elites. Alongside well-equipped soldiers, several Summoned individuals could also be seen.
With a total of just under a thousand troops, it was safe to assume this was Naitō’s final card.
“Then, let’s proceed with the same strategy as before.”
Inside a certain tent, as we were holding a strategy meeting, a hand was suddenly raised.
“Excuse me. I have a small request.”
The one who raised her hand was Kinoshita-sensei.
“Yes, what is it?”
“Regarding persuading the students this time… could you leave that to us?”
In other words, she was asking that those who hadn’t been swayed by the job recruitment broadcasts and material incentives; namely, the Summoned individuals, be handled by them directly on the front lines.
“Are you sure? Most likely, that will be the only truly dangerous area on the battlefield.”
Naitō likely had placed even stronger mental control over the Summoned individuals, who possessed cheat skills.
And this enemy force contained many such individuals.
Which meant that very few would break free from the control without persuasion, and there was a real risk of coordinated counterattacks during that process.
Even so, Kinoshita-sensei nodded firmly.
“Everyone has agreed. Their classmates… my students… we’ll take responsibility for them. It wouldn’t be right to leave that danger to the people of Otogi Trading Company.”
Driven by her sense of responsibility, she spoke without hesitation. As expected, she couldn’t bring herself to leave everything to others when it came to her own students.
It was a situation I had anticipated to some extent, so I nodded.
“Understood. Then I’ll leave the persuasion of the Summoned individuals to you. However, as for the other enemy soldiers, we’ll handle them. Is that alright?”
“Yes. Thank you very much!”
With Kinoshita-sensei’s request accepted, the strategy meeting concluded.
Now then, it was time to face the final battle between armies.
“Operation, commence!”
As before, we aimed to break the mental control through recruitment broadcasts, distribution of application forms, and food incentives.
With the battlefield being more confined this time, Suzuno activated her «Charm Magic» with greater intensity than before.
Additionally, unlike previous battles, those assigned to persuade the more strongly controlled enemies included everyone from〈Brave Wings〉, except Suzuno, along with Saori, Tōdō, Matsuriya, and even Marceline and Shuri-kun.
As for me, I would head to the front lines alongside Kanehama, making this, in a sense, a full-scale engagement.
“…Otogi Trading Company’s special offers…!”
The broadcast began.
From here, we also began moving.
I advanced with Kanehama to persuade those who were not Summoned.
Marceline and Shuri-kun handled other sectors for non-Summoned enemies.〈Brave Wings〉, along with Saori, Tōdō, and Matsuriya, were assigned to persuade the Summoned individuals.
As expected, most of the enemy soldiers who did not break free from the mental control were Summoned individuals.
“Stop right there!”
Just as I was considering where to begin, a voice called out, and at the same time, magic flew toward Kanehama.
“Who’s there?!”
Kanehama deflected it easily with his sword and turned toward the source.
“You’re the one I’ll never forgive, Kanehama!”
“You… Kanzaki?!”
The one who attacked Kanehama was one of the Summoned individuals we had already marked as high-risk.
Kanzaki Tatsuya, possessor of the skill «Instant Death Magic».
It seemed there was some kind of history between these two.
