Soul Devourer Chapter 4 Episode 28 — Subjugating Water Dragon
Leaving only the Water Dragon behind, the Gargouilles dove into the sea all at once. From behind them, as if driving them forward, a massive tsunami surged in.
And this phenomenon, the activation of【Overfall】, was not just the work of a single one. Tidal waves crashed in from every direction, swallowing me in an instant.
But a mere tsunami was not enough to harm me. If I leapt into the air now, I could catch the Gargouilles off guard… just as that thought crossed my mind.
The ocean current howled in a circular pattern, and a massive vortex of sea water formed around me. Most likely, they had activated【Whirlpool】.
A ferocious current engulfed me, confining me like a cage with no escape. The flow accelerated further, they had even layered on【Riptide】.
But this was hardly enough to shake me. With high-level【Swimming】and【Aquatic Respiration】, the sea was simply another battlefield where I could breathe.
Still, the Gargouilles had no intention of merely watching. Riding the whirlpool’s flow, they swam at high speed and bared their fangs at me.

I stored《Balmung》in《Magic Pouch》and gripped a dagger in each hand. The moment one Gargouille lunged with its jaws wide open, I activated【Slash Arts】and swung.
The slash shot through the water as if cleaving the sea itself, splitting the Gargouille clean in two.《Sea Dragon's Naval Aglyphs》faced no resistance from water, and the power of【Slash Arts】scaled with my Strength stat.
In other words, underwater combat was no different from fighting on land.
As Gargouilles attacked one after another, I unleashed continuous slashes. Blood filled the sea, and each time a new shadow advanced over a fallen comrade’s corpse, I cut it cleanly in half.
One by one, the moving shapes within the vortex disappeared.

With a thunderous roar, the raging current split the sky. I evaded it and dove toward the Water Dragon.
But it did not neglect its defense. Invoking【Water Magic】, it generated a massive wall of water before itself.
“That won’t stop me! I’ll cut it down easily!”
I swung《Balmung》. The enormous water wall split cleanly in two, but the Water Dragon was no longer there.
It had already submerged and resurfaced some distance away. Around itself, it generated countless violently rotating water spears.
If I generated water spears in response, they would only be deflected by【Ripple Aegis】.
In that case-!
Using【Flight】and《Balmung》, I charged straight ahead. Of the incoming spears, I cut down only those aimed at my vital points and ignored the rest, pushing forward relentlessly.
The moment I broke through the barrage of spears, a new surge of magic gathered. A rain of water blades awaited.
As I sliced through them and advanced, another presence of magic formed overhead.
From above, a downpour descended, dense enough to pierce hardened earth, trapping me in a pincer attack from front and sky.

Seizing complete control of the surrounding wind, I forcibly altered its direction. As a result, the water blades and rain veered away from my body, and with the tailwind, my flight speed surged.
The distance between me and the Water Dragon vanished in an instant. I invoked【Lightning Magic】toward its head.
Thunder roared. A flash of light struck the Water Dragon, or so it seemed. The next instant, the lightning was deflected by【Ripple Aegis】.
But that was fine. My true aim was to divert its attention.
In that split second of distraction, I activated【Warp】.
In an instant, I was behind it. I swung《Balmung》. The blade cleaved through the air, slicing cleanly through the Water Dragon’s long neck.
