Konbini Ossan Volume 9 Chapter 5 — Preparation for Entry
Early the next morning, we arrived at the Otogi Trading Company-affiliated commercial facility closest to the Great Forest Autonomous District.
Since it is also near the front lines of the war with the Demon King’s Army, this place sells goods intended for the kingdom’s military as well.
In other words, preserved rations and equipment necessary for camping. These are also convenient items for us as we prepare to enter the Great Forest Autonomous District.
“Alright, let’s finish preparing here before we go. I’ll cover the expenses, so please don’t hesitate to buy whatever you need.”
After saying that, I leave the preparations to the other four and head off to scout the Great Forest Autonomous District myself.
After driving for a little less than an hour, the Great Forest Autonomous District comes into view.
At a glance, it appears to be a relatively sparse forest, with enough room for a vehicle to pass through.
There are also paths where grass has been pressed down, like animal trails, and it seems possible to drive through those.
The terrain is not particularly rough. In fact, compared to the wasteland route we sped through yesterday to reach this area as quickly as possible, this forest seems far easier.
It’s impossible to know what conditions are like deeper inside, but for now it appears that travel by automobile will be possible.
After making that judgment, I return to the commercial facility.
However, something unexpected had been prepared there.
“Master! Arisa-chan contacted us through communications!”
Yairo reports the news happily.
“She contacted this commercial facility in advance.
…
Apparently they’ve prepared a specially modified transport vehicle capable of forcibly breaking through the forest if necessary, and they’ve also packed various weapons inside the storage bag!”
“That’s extremely helpful.”
“Yes! I already thanked Arisa-chan properly as well!”
It seems Arisa had made preparations ahead of time.
When I check the contents of the storage bag, I find a large quantity of firearms.
There are also rocket launchers, missile pods, anti-materiel rifles; equipment at a level where it’s hard to imagine what exactly she expected to happen.
That said, the ammunition for the firearms consists mainly of tranquilizer rounds.
The weapons also include stun rods modeled after stun guns, essentially stun guns that can be handled like swords.
There is no doubt that this equipment was prepared with the intention of incapacitating enemies rather than killing them.
The larger weapons must simply be insurance against unexpected trouble.
As for the modified special vehicle, its appearance is practically that of an armored vehicle used in war.
The front is fitted with a thick, heavy bumper clearly designed to knock down thin trees, giving the impression that it was built with the determination to force its way through the Great Forest Autonomous District.
If the scenery I saw earlier continues throughout the forest, then this vehicle should have no trouble passing through.
“Arisa truly helps us so much. I’ll have to thank her when we return.”
“Yes!”
And so, after checking the equipment together, Yairo and I once again feel gratitude toward Arisa.
Now then.
Afterward we load our supplies into the prepared armored vehicle, and it is finally time to depart. With the time spent preparing, we end up leaving just before noon.
“Alright, let’s go. Once we enter the Great Forest Autonomous District, please refrain from traveling at night. It could unnecessarily provoke the local tribes.”
“Understood. We’ll be careful.”
Taking Ichiro Suzuki’s warning seriously, we finally set off.
Perhaps due to its heavy armor and forest modifications, the vehicle travels a bit slower, so it takes slightly more than an hour to reach the Great Forest Autonomous District.
Standing before it at last, I steel my resolve once more.
“From here on, we are truly outside the Runegard Kingdom, in a dangerous region where many tribes exist beyond even the Demon King Army’s control.
…
You are all truly prepared for that, correct?”
We nod at Ichiro Suzuki’s final confirmation.
“Of course. Now then, let’s go.”
I firmly press the accelerator and drive into the Great Forest Autonomous District.
Now, the real challenge begins.

The pace of development of modern product under Ossan's company is truly freakish! And Arisa-chan has become so dependable!
Also, point to note, Yairo-chan is calling Ossan, "Master" but, in Japanese "Danna-sama" can be either Master or "Dear Husband". I thought of putting "Dear" but that sounds… cheesy!
