Konbini Ossan Volume 7 Chapter 30 — Dismissal
Perhaps unable to believe the word ‘dismissal’, Suzuno stood there blankly for a brief moment.
But her anger quickly reignited, and she launched into a furious protest directed at me.
“Don’t screw with me! You old bastard, weren’t you supposed to want to protect people like us?!”
“That is true. However, it is not my top priority. At most, protecting those who were transferred here is a conditional goal; only if possible.”
“Then protect me properly too! You’re rich, right?! You can do that much, can’t you?!”
Seeing Suzuno still unconvinced, I pressed on, rejecting her more firmly.
“Certainly, if we’re talking about possibility, then yes, it’s possible. I could continue to protect you, even give you enough money to play around without working.”
“Then do it!”
“Did you really think I would want to?”
I sharpened my gaze and began listing her misdeeds one by one, directly to her face.
“At the factory, you couldn’t even handle the simplest line work. You couldn’t manage a job that was just watching machines. You had no intention of learning. You slacked off and wandered away at the first opportunity.
…
So when we placed you where people could see you, you pushed your work onto others instead. You still didn’t try to learn. You had no intention of doing customer service. And in the end, even the cash register stopped adding up.”
“That’s got nothing to do with it! You’re the ones making me do stuff I’m bad at, so don’t mess with me!”
“Yes, everyone has things they’re bad at.”
I acknowledged that for just a moment, then immediately followed with a rebuttal.
“But normally, people make an effort. If they can’t do something, they try to learn how. And if they still can’t, they feel apologetic about it. That’s what normal people do.”
“So what?!”
“Have you noticed, Suzuno-san? Not once have you apologized, nor have you shown any willingness to make an effort.”
“Hah?! And what about it?!”
At that point, Suzuno could no longer offer anything resembling a proper rebuttal, only shouting back at me.
“Yes. From where I stand, it seems you want to be protected and given money, but you don’t want to work, don’t want to struggle, and don’t want to endure anything.”
“That’s not true!”
“Whether it’s true or not doesn’t matter. From my perspective, you are selfish and nothing but a nuisance.”
That’s right. Her inner thoughts were irrelevant.
What matters is what she actually does, and how she appears to others. There is no other way to judge a person’s value.
“In short, I find you unpleasant, Suzuno-san.”
“Don’t mess with me!”
“And I have no desire to go out of my way to protect someone unpleasant. At least, that’s how I am. That’s why I won’t protect you. It’s only natural.”
“Shut up! Drop dead, you bastard!”
By this point, not even the semblance of a coherent argument remained in Suzuno’s words.
After hurling abuse and screaming to her heart’s content, she finally fell silent, as if she had exhausted herself.
That was when I released the arm I had been restraining.
For a while, we stared each other down in silence. Then, as if she’d lost patience, Suzuno spoke again.
“Don’t come crying later. You’ll regret dumping me.”
“I see. Then you are no longer an employee here. Please leave.”
“Like I need you to tell me! I’m leaving anyway! I’ll never come back to a dump like this!”
Spitting out those words, Suzuno stormed out of the room.
And thus, Suzuno was dismissed from Otsugi Trading.
She probably thinks it’s nothing more than getting fired.
Unfortunately for her, this is not the end.

It usually doesn't end well in the long run for people like this but, given that this is another world with worse security as compared to Earth in both personal or occupation matters…
Well, I just hope she doesn't join up with the demons and become a Succubus or something 🤢!
