Konbini Ossan Volume 7 Chapter 21 — Polygamy
There are many women whom I must marry… women for whom I must take responsibility.
From my actions up to now, Maria-san and Shirley are already seen by society as women who will become my wives.
If I were not to marry them, they would be labeled as women who were left behind, abandoned, their social standing damaged and even their future marriage prospects affected.
Marceline is also one of the women for whom I must take responsibility.
She herself has fully acted with that assumption, and there were surely many moments when her cooperation was given precisely because marriage was taken as a given.
To betray her at this point would be unthinkable.
Moreover, within the royal palace, Marceline is likely regarded in the same way as Maria-san and Shirley; as someone who will register her marriage with me.
In that sense as well, abandoning her is not an option.
And then there is Joan-kun. A boy who changed his sex into that of a woman solely to marry me.
The heaviest part of all this is that Joan-kun did not wish to become a girl for her own sake. SHe abandoned her identity as a boy.
To allow her to make such a choice, only to cast her aside afterward, would be far too cruel.
In that case, the proper way to repay her is to take her into my family through marriage.
There may be other women who harbor feelings for me, but at present, these four are the women for whom I must take responsibility.
I explained these circumstances to Joan-kun and had her understand that I could not marry only her.
“I get it, old man. As long as you cherish me, I don’t care if I’m fourth or fifth. You’ll make me your bride, right?”
“Yes. At this point, I have no choice but to take responsibility.”
“I’m so happy!”
It is a marriage entered into in a rather passive, hardly forward-looking, manner.
Even so, it seems to be more than enough for Joan-kun, who happily leaps at me and clings tightly.
“Good for you, Joan.”
“Yeah! Thank you, Yūki-nee!”
“Be happy… happy enough for my share as well.”
Matsuriya smiles gently as he says this. Yet within that smile, I sense a faint trace of loneliness.
Including Matsuriya, the summoned heroes are not human. As such, the sex-change magic designed for humans cannot turn them into women.
Which means that no matter how much Matsuriya struggles, a future where he registers a marriage with me simply cannot exist.
Considering that, I can more or less understand his feelings.
Perhaps Joan-kun reminded him of himself, someone burdened with a similar conflict, yet unlike him, someone whose problem could be resolved.
That must be why he empathized, sympathized, and wanted to help him.
“Now then, Otsugi-san. It seems you understand Joan’s sex change. But to begin with, what was the reason you came here today?”
“Ah, right. About that.”
Prompted by Matsuriya, I begin explaining my original purpose.
That I have founded a company called Otsugi Trading. That I decided to create subsidiaries for each business and place them under separate managers.
And that I intend to entrust the transportation and security businesses to Joan-kun.
“Got it, old man! I’ll work my hardest!”
Joan-kun accepts the proposal, clenching her fist in determination.
“Thank you, Joan-kun. Once the details are finalized, I’ll come by again to discuss them.”
“Yeah!”
“I see. If you’re restructuring into subsidiaries, Otsugi-san, I have a proposal of my own.”
“A proposal? What might that be?”
Matsuriya’s suggestion was exactly what I had been considering myself.
“If you don’t mind, why not formally assign all of our Kanahama-gumi classmates to positions within Otsugi Trading and its subsidiaries?”
“That saves me the trouble of explaining. That is precisely one of the reasons I came to see you today.”
“I see. As expected of you, Otsugi-san!”
With this, it seems we can move forward smoothly.
