Konbini Ossan Volume 7 Chapter 19 — As Promised
On my way to Matsuriya-kun’s room, I happened to overhear a certain rumor.
It was a casual conversation between palace soldiers, and the topic just so happened to involve Matsuriya-kun.
“Oi, you heard?”
“Heard what?”
“Lately, apparently there’s this, well, insanely cute girl living together with the Sage-sama in his room.”
“Seriously? I thought Sage-sama was, you know… (whispers) into men.”
“Yeah, that’s what everyone says. But a bunch of people have seen that girl coming out of his room. Not just during the day, at night and in the morning too.”
“Huh. Then there’s no mistake.”
“Guess Sage-sama’s gotten interested in women after all.”
Hearing that rumor, I tilted my head in confusion.
Matsuriya-kun’s romantic interests should be exclusively male. Women were not his type, and instincts like that do not change so easily.
And yet, the idea that Matsuriya-kun had a girlfriend felt strange.
Still, whatever the truth was, I would soon find out. With that thought, I quickened my pace toward Matsuriya-kun’s room.
Before long, I arrived, knocked on the door several times, and called out.
“Matsuriya-kun. Are you in? It's Otsugi. I have a small matter to discuss.”
“Otsugi-san! Perfect timing! Please, come in!”
Permission granted.
When I entered the room, I saw Matsuriya-kun, and standing beside him was a beautiful young girl who somehow felt familiar, yet was unmistakably someone I was meeting for the first time.
“Oh my, are you a guest of Matsuriya-kun’s?”
“Yes, well. A guest… or perhaps a comrade would be more accurate.”
“I see. Then perhaps I should excuse myself?”
“No, no! If anything, it’s perfect that Otsugi-san came just now! We’ve just finished the procedure flawlessly!”
The word procedure caught my attention, raising questions, but this was not the time to pursue them.
“I see. Then may I move on to my business?”
“Of course.”
“Then I’ll take you up on that. Actually, I’m looking for Joan-kun.”
“Oh ho, how curious! What a coincidence!”
“Well, in any case, I heard that Joan-kun has been getting quite close to you lately. Do you happen to know where he went during his long vacation?”
At that question, Matsuriya-kun grinned. Fixing me with a feral gleam in his eyes, he replied.
“Of course. If it’s Joan’s whereabouts, I can tell you right away.”
“Really? Then would you please tell me?”
“Certainly. But before that—”
As he spoke, Matsuriya-kun placed his hand on the back of the beautiful girl standing beside him and gently pushed her forward.
“W-wah!”
She let out a flustered cry as she was nudged in front of me. Her face flushed red, and she averted her gaze, clearly embarrassed.
“Go on. Be brave. This is what you worked so hard for until today, right?”
“Yeah… okay.”
After a brief hesitation, the girl nodded. Then she looked straight at me and spoke.
“Hey, old man. Do you know who I am?”
The moment she addressed me, an unthinkable guess surfaced in my mind; one I desperately wanted to deny.
“You see, I believed what you told me. I worked hard, got help from Yūki-nee’s power too, and now I’ve become this cute.”
There’s no way. That can’t be possible.
And yet, every word coming from the beautiful girl standing before me steadily proved that my suspicion was correct.
Then, finally, she spoke the decisive words.
“So, you know. Just like you promised… I want you to take me, Joan, as one girl, and make me your bride!”
