Soul Devourer Chapter 2 Episode 13 — Three Conditions and the Move

The next day. After finishing breakfast, I immediately started searching for a new place to live.

I installed two house-hunting apps to compare them and set several conditions before beginning the search.

The first condition was that the building had to be protected by multiple Hunters or former Hunters. After what happened with the kidnapping, this was non-negotiable.

When I checked the listings, most buildings were guarded by D or C-rank Hunters.

Honestly, it was disappointing.

Those guys who barged into our house were about that level. There’s no way I could entrust my parents’ safety to someone of the same strength.

In general society, C-rank Hunters—your so-called mid-level Hunters—are considered capable.

But their opponents are also Hunters. At best they could fight to a draw, and depending on numbers, an intruder could get through.

But still, it’s rare for Hunters who want wealth or fame to take on guard work. I understood that my expectations were high.

The second condition was that the building had to be far from any dungeon. For me, having a dungeon nearby is convenient since it shortens travel time.

But it’s not the same for my parents.

I learned during the Troll Stampede incident just how helpless normal civilians are in front of monsters. Even with Hunters doing security, it’s better to avoid danger altogether.

I can handle transportation however I want anyway.

The last condition wasn’t strictly mandatory… but I wanted at least a 4LDK. One room for Dad, one for Mom, one for me, and a shared bedroom for Dad and Mom.

Dad said not to worry about his commute. Apparently he can work remotely.

Even so, I thought we should still choose a place not too far. You never know when he might need to go in.

While going through listings with all the small conditions included, one property caught my eye.

It was guarded by B-rank Hunters.

Digging deeper, I learned the mid-tier clan dispatching those B-ranks worked on the policy of “earning money safely and securely using our Hunters' strengths, as a side gig”.

Meaning, they weren’t chasing fame or aggressively clearing dungeons. They just wanted stable income by leveraging their Hunter skills.

Since they were sending higher-tier mid-level Hunters, the rent and management fees easily exceeded one million yen.

But with my income, and the special benefits from the Hunter Guild, that wasn’t a problem.

Not a problem at all!

I called the real estate agent, went with Mom to scope out the place, and later talked it over with Dad when he got home.

Dad had no objections.

So from that day on, we packed steadily, cleaned up, said goodbye to the house that had sheltered me for 18 years, and moved into our new home.

E/N:

It's not easy to say goodbye to a house you've been living in for a long time, right?

I'm understanding it now since my Dad had a transferable job and we recently bought a house I could call a home from my heart!

Stay tuned! (2/3 chapters)
