Soul Devourer Chapter 2 Episode 14 — The Guildmaster… Trembles
Several days passed after the kidnapping of Yuito’s parents by「Demon-fist Raiders」.
While Yuito cleaned and packed alongside his mother, a guild staff member was sprinting through a hallway inside the Hunter Guild building.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“E-excuse me!”
“W-what is the matter! Why are you in such a panic!?”
The Guildmaster was shocked by the staff member barging in without waiting for permission. Seeing his state, the Guildmaster braced himself, sensing this was urgent.
“G-Guildmaster! The「Demon-fist Raiders」's clan master and all of its members appear to be missing!”
“W-what!? W-what do you mean!?”
“We received a report from a staff member working with the clan. For the past few days, not a single member has shown up at the clan’s headquarters, nor have they visited any of their usual shops.”
“Could they be out on a clan expedition?”
“I thought the same, but not informing the staff who manage the clan is strange. And to be sure, we contacted the guild branches that oversee A and S-rank dungeons, but none of them have appeared there either.”
“...What does this mean? If they’re not in any domestic A or S-rank dungeons, then where could they— no, don’t tell me! Abroad!?”
“Please calm down, Guildmaster. When an S-rank Hunter operates outside the country, approval is required from both nations due to individual combat potential and dungeon-resource balance.”
“That’s right…”
“And there is one more concerning point. It seems that Hunter Matsubara visited their headquarters. And it was right after that that they went missing.”
“Matsubara visited them? Hm… maybe a recruitment attempt? No, speculating won’t get us anywhere. We need to contact him at once and ask what he knows!”
“Understood!”
The Guildmaster and the staff member hurried to get ready and headed for Matsubara’s home.

When they rang the doorbell, a casually dressed Matsubara answered and guided them up to his second-floor room.
After drinking the tea his mother brought, they explained the situation and asked why he had visited「Demon-fist Raiders」's headquarters.
Then, Matsubara said something utterly shocking.
“I killed their clan master Daiki and all of their members.”
They couldn’t speak for several seconds. Barely able to accept the statement as real, the Guildmaster forced out a small question.
“...W-why would you do that?”
Matsubara lowered his voice slightly and explained the entire series of events.
By the time he finished, the Guildmaster and the staff member could only hold their heads.
It was true that before becoming S-rank, Daiki had caused several violent incidents.
But his strength was undeniable, and he had greatly contributed to dungeon resource gathering and clearings.
And although there had been concern that the guild’s special forces might not be able to restrain him if he ever caused serious trouble after becoming S-rank, he had never actually caused any incidents.
They had let their guard down. And then this happened.
“I’m sorry to ask this. It’s not that I doubt you, but… do you have any proof?”
“I recovered the cameras and computers from inside the arena. The footage might not show my parents directly, but you’ll hear their threats clearly. You’ll be able to tell my parents were being held hostage.”
“I see…”
“Also, if you check the lobby cameras on the first floor, my parents should be visible.”
“Understood. Once we confirm everything, please allow us to formally apologize to your parents.”
They bowed their heads deeply and asked for his consent.
“Alright. Contact me when the time comes.”
“Yes.”
They accepted the cameras and computer, then left Matsubara’s home.
The Guildmaster exhaled deeply and murmured to himself.
“To think he single-handedly killed an entire clan including an S-rank Hunter…”
