Soul Devourer Chapter 1 Episode 46 — Rewards of the Upper-Rank Dungeon
After defeating the King Centipede — the boss — the treasure chest that appeared before me was an extravagant sight to behold.
“I wonder what kind of loot you get from a high-rank dungeon chest…”
Swallowing hard, I opened it with high hopes. Inside were materials from the boss and two curved short swords.
The blades gleamed in a deep red-violet hue, their color exuding a sinister, poisonous aura.
Even at a glance, I could tell these were extraordinary — expensive and ominously beautiful.
“So, you’re my new partner, huh…”
I couldn’t help but grin, my steps light as I stood on the magic circle and returned to the surface.
Immediately, I sold the materials from the three Armored Centipedes and the King Centipede, then handed over the weapons for appraisal.
“T-this is… the King Centipede’s materials! Don’t tell me — you defeated the boss alone?”
“I did.”
“As expected of, Matsubara-sama, the man who single-handedly ended the Stampede! According to the Guild’s records, no one has ever cleared an A-rank dungeon solo before.”
“Really? I’d think an S-rank hunter could do it.”
“Perhaps so, but none have actually done it. All S-rank hunters in Japan take turns challenging the country’s only S-rank dungeon.”
Japan had only one S-rank dungeon. Other countries had multiple, and some had even managed to conquer theirs completely.
Japan’s S-rank dungeon was infested with wyverns — subspecies of dragons. Each was so powerful that even a party of top A-rank hunters was required to take them down.
That was precisely why the materials from those creatures fetched incredibly high prices.
To prevent disputes, monopolization was banned, and major clans took turns entering.
“I see.”
“Now then, for the purchase price of your materials — three Armored Centipede torsos, 30 million yen; the King Centipede’s magic stone, venomous jaws, and torso, another 30 million. The total comes to 60 million yen.”
Si-sixty million!? One dungeon run earning more than a corporate executive’s yearly salary… that’s the power of a high-rank dungeon.
With this, I could finally get my parents a better place to live.
“Next, the appraisal result of these short swords. Their name is《Death Venom Fangs of the Centipede King》.
…
The first effect is a potent paralyzing poison capable of instant death. The second grants +60 to Agility and Dexterity.”
Both effects were immensely useful. I was honestly lucky to have found replacements so quickly.
“Normally, these daggers are extremely dangerous, so the Guild would prefer to take custody of them… but since you don’t seem to have any other weapon, please just handle them with utmost care.”
“Of course.”
It wasn’t mandatory to hand them over — and even if it had been, I wouldn’t have agreed.
Though the A-rank dungeon had left me a bit worn out, I set my sights on the next one and continued forward.

"two curved short swords" - why Knight Lautrec is the first thing that comes to my mind?
ReplyDeleteLol Aren't his weapon more of a sickle than curved swords? Though I do understand where you're coming from. For me it's the curved swords of the Sultans and Maharajas of the South-Asian Subcontinent.
DeleteWhat about Archer EMIYA's from Fate?
DeleteI did quick Google search, Kanshou and Bakuya, right? Cool weapons and with abilities like anti-physical and anti-magical barriers.
DeleteDidn't they also turn into longswords or something?
'Overedge'? He do can use Magecraft to change their shape (and others weapons). Apparently studio DEEN exclusive, but Nasu loved it and made it cannon. Mostly used in Fate/kaleid.
DeleteCoincidentally one of his versions (Alter) has double-bladed spear version. And a GUN.
Now, that's cool!! 😎
DeleteOn sad note there is third party that trying to 'throw hat in the ring' (translate this series). Technically I didn't mind that part myself.
ReplyDeleteBut...
For the love of God...
Can They Stop Making DUPLICATE ENTRIES for the Novels..?
There is like a ton of them on site already. 😫💢
Yeah I sawwww! Wth man, such disrespect... Although, I kinda don't care, that alcoholic puts things behind paywalls too. I, on the other hand, translate for fun.
