The next dungeon I visited was also B-rank.

Just as the number of high-ranking hunters decreased with rank, so too did the number of high-ranking dungeons.

I’d hoped to earn a little more, but there weren’t any closer options. Well, B-rank dungeons still paid better than a regular office job, so I couldn’t really complain.

The field before me was a dense jungle filled with three-meter-tall shrubs, and rain poured down relentlessly.

“It’s humid, my gear’s soaked… this is just as harsh as the desert.”

Shielding my eyes from the rain with one hand, I advanced cautiously. That’s when I sensed something approaching rapidly.

I dodged on reflex — though I couldn’t tell what had attacked me, and I couldn’t see the monster.

Still, even if my eyes couldn’t find it,【Vital Sense】told me where it was hiding.

Drawing my twin-shortswords, I activated【Stealth】and vanished, then slashed down at what looked like empty air.

In that instant, a green-scaled creature about a meter long appeared — a Quarl.

They could change the color of their scales to blend perfectly into the jungle.

Once they spotted prey with their wide field of vision, they’d erase their presence using a combination of【Presence Concealment】,【Mana Concealment】, and【Stealth】, then ambush using their long, elastic tongues.

They were natural-born assassins — ranked alongside Kobold Assassins and Vorpal Bunnies. Perfect prey to help level up my own assassination-related skills.

“I’ll wipe them all out while I’m at it.”

With Agility over 1,000, it didn’t take seven seconds to close in on a target. That extra second just meant more kills per second — definitely worth it.

Normally, I’d wait until I was home to check my status, but I couldn’t hold back. I pulled up my stats right there, in front of the boss room.

This corridor and the space before the boss door were safe zones where no monsters spawned, so most hunters used this time to review their status before battle.

The two things I needed to check were my Skill Points and Job. First, my remaining Skill Points — ten in total. I spent them all to enhance【Subterfuge】.

Now my【Stealth】was Level 8. Even though it had just improved earlier, the duration had increased by another second.

“The ultimate class is almost in reach. If the goal’s in sight — then I’ll push even harder. Time to take down this boss.”
