The next morning. After finishing breakfast and getting ready, I tied my shoelaces at the entrance. Then, standing up with a burst of energy—


“Alright! Let’s do our best today!”


I slapped my cheeks to fire myself up and was about to step out when my phone started ringing in my pocket.

The caller was someone from the Hunter Guild.


“Hello?”


“Good morning. This is Shimizu from the Hunter Guild. Regarding yesterday’s stampede, your promotion has been approved, Mr. Matsubara. Could you please stop by the guild to update your Hunter ID?”


Seriously?! That means I’ve been promoted to B-rank— which means I can now challenge A-rank dungeons!


“I’ll be right there!”


“We’ll be waiting for you.”


As soon as the call ended, I threw open the door and dashed out.

“Hm?”


When I arrived in front of the Hunter Guild entrance, a huge crowd had gathered. Judging by the cameras and microphones, they were reporters.


Is there an S-rank hunter inside or something?

Curious, I walked closer to the crowd and was just about to ask when—


“Ah!”


A woman holding a microphone pointed at me and shouted. Her voice made all the surrounding reporters turn toward me at once.

The next moment, I was surrounded by them. Confused and unsure of what was happening —


“Mr. Yuito Matsubara! The nation is abuzz with talk of a new S-rank hunter after you single-handedly ended yesterday’s stampede! How do you feel about that?”


“The magic you used to wipe out nearly a hundred monsters in an instant was incredible! Are you, perhaps, a magic-type hunter?”


“Despite being a C-rank with such a short hunter career, you managed to defeat monsters that even A-rank hunters struggle with. How did you become so strong?”


The barrage of questions came one after another. Every time I tried to answer, another question flew in.

I didn’t know what to do — when suddenly, a man stepped out from the guild entrance.


“Everyone, please calm down. You’re making him uncomfortable, and you’re blocking the entrance. Please refrain from unauthorized interviews.”


At his words, the reporters’ intensity died down. As the man approached, they quietly stepped aside to make way.


“Nice to meet you. I’m Tadaaki Ogawa, the Guildmaster. Please, come inside.”


“Ah, thank you.”


I’d turned down his request for a meeting after the stampede, so this felt a little awkward.

Hastening my pace, I slipped through the Hunter Guild’s entrance.
