Soul Devourer Chapter 1 Episode 6 — Delicious Monsters
Lying on my bed, I stared at the status window. Thanks to leveling up, I had been awarded a skill point, changing the total from 0 to 1.
Along with that, a new skill window listing learnable skills had appeared. I scrolled down from top to bottom to check what was available.
There were combat-type skills like 【Martial Arts】 and 【Shield Techniques】, magic-type skills like 【Fire Magic】 and 【Water Magic】, and support-type skills like 【Appraisal】 and 【Concealment】.
Among the wide variety of skills, rookie hunters usually chose between 【Appraisal】 or 【Concealment】.
【Appraisal】 allowed one to see the status of monsters and other hunters, making it useful as reference material for battle decisions.
【Concealment】 hid one’s own status, helping in self-defense. Inside dungeons, monsters were not the only threat — sometimes other hunters could become enemies as well.
“In my case, since I have a rare unique skill, I should be more careful about other people’s eyes than monsters. In that case, the skill I should learn is —”
『You have learned 【Concealment】 Lv.1』
I then checked the details of the newly acquired 【Swordsmanship】and【Concealment】.
━━━━━━━━━━
【Swordsmanship】Lv.1
Proficiency in handling short swords and longswords, granting corrections to attack and defense actions.
Strength +1, Dexterity +1
【Concealment】Lv.1
Nullifies 【Appraisal】of Lv.1 or lower.
Luck +1
━━━━━━━━━━
Finally, I opened the newly added job window. One job was displayed there.
━━━━━━━━━━
{Swordsman}
Granted to those who have learned 【Sword Techniques】Lv.1.
━━━━━━━━━━
{Swordsman} was the lowest-tier job, with no particular benefits. Jobs of intermediate rank or higher, however, offered certain advantages.
“Well then, I’d better get to sleep so I don’t oversleep tomorrow.”

This time, without oversleeping, I arrived at an E-rank dungeon early in the morning.
The field stretched out as far as the eye could see, covered in grass no higher than my knees.
The monsters here were light-blue, semi-transparent slimes, and many rookie hunters nearby were scrambling over them.
To avoid the crowd, I headed further in until I spotted my first slime. It had no visible sensory organs, so I couldn’t tell if it had noticed me.
I carefully closed the distance.
“Whoa!”
When I got within one or two meters, it suddenly fired an acid projectile. Dodging in a hurry, I saw the grass struck by the acid melt away completely without a trace.
“If this hits my clothes or leather armor, I don’t know how much they’ll withstand. If it splashes onto bare skin, it’ll be more than just a serious injury.”
Watching for the timing of another shot, I took advantage of the opening right after it fired and slashed through the magic stone inside its body with my longsword.
『Magic has increased by 1』
『Strength has increased by 1』
『Endurance has increased by 1』
『Agility has increased by 1』
『Intelligence has increased by 1』
『Spirit has increased by 1』
『Dexterity has increased by 1』
『Luck has increased by 1』
『You have acquired 【Presence Detection】 Lv.1』
『You have acquired 【Blow Resistance】 Lv.1』
『You have acquired 【Slash Resistance】 Lv.1』
『You have acquired 【Pierce Resistance】 Lv.1』
I had obtained four skills that would prove useful in future battles. Since they also appeared listed in the skill window, hunters were apparently able to learn them as well.
Next, I decided to find out how many monsters needed to be defeated to raise skill levels, keeping count in my head as I went along.
・To raise a skill to Level 2
Defeat two monsters that possess Level 1 of that skill.
・To raise a skill to Level 3
Defeat six monsters that possess Level 1 of that skill.
As the skill level rose, the required number of monsters doubled and tripled, so raising a skill to Level 4 would take 24 monsters.
With my current strength, that would take too much time, so if I wanted to push higher, it would be better to challenge a D-rank dungeon.
『You have leveled up to Level 3』
『Magic has increased by 1』
『Strength has increased by 1』
『Endurance has increased by 1』
『Agility has increased by 1』
『Intelligence has increased by 1』
『Spirit has increased by 1』
『Dexterity has increased by 1』
『Luck has increased by 1』
『【Presence Detection】 has leveled up to Lv.3』
『【Blow Resistance】 has leveled up to Lv.3』
『【Slash Resistance】 has leveled up to Lv.3』
『【Pierce Resistance】 has leveled up to Lv.3』
With each skill raised to Level 3, I immediately set out toward the boss room.

E/N:
Please keep in mind, for system messages like level ups, ability ups, new skill gains or skill level ups, 『』brackets will be used.
For skill names with their levels, 【】brackets will be used.
For jobs, {<Job Name>} will be used.
Anyway, took up this WN because…(check ToC for the reason) and it's jarring to edit to make it look organized.
Just above this section, you'll find a "Current Status" link which will take you to the Status window page of our MC.
Anyhow, I'm up for the challenge and shall do my best! Stay tuned!

It looks like the number required is n=L!, where N is the number of monsters and L is the next level.
ReplyDeleteTruly said! Although, I wonder if same formula applies to higher skill levels like Lv.2 or higher?
