Soul Devourer Chapter 1 Episode 26 — Promotion
>Knock< >Knock< >Knock<
“Excuse me!”
I knocked on the door and stepped into the Clanmaster’s office. The man buried in paperwork at his desk was the clan master of「King of Sword」— Tensei Suzuki.
“Master, I’ve returned.”
“Good work. Were you able to make contact with that hunter?”
“Yes.”
“I see. That’s good to hear. So, what was his response?”
“He refused to join the clan, but agreed to sign a contract as a collaborator.”
“I see. Did he give a reason for turning it down?”
“He seemed dissatisfied with the distribution of rewards and loot. I did warn him about the dangers of solo work, but he still wouldn’t change his mind.”
“So, you decided to settle on a less binding collaborator contract instead?”
“Exactly.”
“Understood. From here on, maintaining a connection with him will be crucial — we can’t afford to have another clan snatch him away.”
“Yes. However, I believe some of our members won’t take this news kindly.”
“That’s true. He’s still inexperienced and ranked low, so there’ll be plenty who doubt his abilities. We’ll need to arrange a chance to test his skills sooner or later.”
“Understood.”

The next day. Before heading into a dungeon, I stopped by the Hunter Guild. Early that morning, I’d received a call from a guild staff member about a promotion.
“The process is complete. Matsubara-sama, you are now a C-rank hunter. You may now challenge up to B-rank dungeons. Please continue doing your best.”
“Thank you.”
After updating my hunter license at the reception desk, I hailed a taxi and headed toward a B-rank dungeon in Suginami Ward.
As dungeon rank increases, the number of hunters gathered at the entrance decreases — though their quality rises drastically.
Every one of them carried fine weapons and armor, their movements sharp and refined.
Passing through the entrance, a vast open grassland stretched before me. The monsters fighting the hunters were brutal and vicious.
Long ears, a round body covered in white fur, powerful legs thick with muscle, and a pair of sharp sickles in hand — a rabbit-type monster known as the Vorpal Bunny.
I lowered my stance, short sword in hand, focusing intently on the creature before me.
In the blink of an eye, it vanished. My 【Vital Sense】picked up its position as it moved behind me.
The sickle swung for my neck — I blocked it with my short sword. After fighting a few of these, I’d learned they always went straight for the neck.
Because my【Presence Concealment】,【Mana Concealment】, and【Stealth】were high-level, ordinary hunters would need exceptional detection skills to handle this kind of enemy.
Dodging another swing aimed at my neck, I countered and struck diagonally across its torso with my short sword.

Anyway, are y'all tired of the weapon skills like 'weapon name'-manship? Let me know in the comments. Stay tuned!

thank you for the chapter!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like dungeon monsters double in stats every rank
40 at c rank
80 at b rank
I would assume mr king of sword here would have stats around 300+
I think 30 more of these B rank mob monsters should be enough for mc to beat this king of sword dude or whatever :)
Intersting conjecture! Although, we won't know the full picture until MC goes to A and S rank dungeons.
