Soul Devourer Chapter 1 Episode 15 — Striking Back

Blood rushed to my head, and perhaps because of the anger, the trembling in my hands and legs stopped completely.

In this state, I could kill those who mocked me and got in my way.

I dashed forward to close the distance, and the two mages in the rear each fired a bullet of fire and a bullet of water.

I dodged them, and just as the front-line swordsman raised his longsword, I vanished with【Stealth】.

The swordsman’s eyes widened in shock.

“Wh-!? Wh… where did he go-!?”

While his eyes darted around, I cut his head off.

“Wh… what just happened…! Hey! What are you doing!? Attack with magic, quickly!”

The man holding a large shield shouted at the stunned mages. Snapping back to themselves, they hastily fired arrows of fire and water.

“D… damn it! He’s too fast, our magic won’t hit!”

“Just aim properly! I won’t let him get close!【Taunt】”

I thought to kill the rear mages first since their long-range attacks were troublesome, but for some reason my focus was forcibly drawn to the shield-bearer.

“Take this!”

“Guh… his strikes are too heavy! Attack while you can!”

I dodged the incoming spells, feinted at the shield-bearer, then disappeared again with【Stealth】.

“Damn it! Again!? Where the hell did he go!?”

Taking advantage of the moment they lost sight of me, I slipped behind one of the mages and cut his head off.

The other mage noticed me, but at this range, I held the advantage.

“W-wait, stop-!!”

Ignoring his plea, I slashed him diagonally across the torso.

“I-I’m gonna die! Uwaaahhh!”

The shield-bearer, panicking as his companions were all killed, turned and fled as fast as he could.

“«Fire Arrow»”

Chasing after him, I cast a spell. The fleeing shield-bearer turned and blocked it with his shield, but in that moment I circled behind him.

As he turned again to run, I cut his head off.

Once everyone was dead, my rage subsided as if it had been a lie. The corpses scattered around me forced the reality upon me, whether I wanted it or not.

“…I killed people.”

And yet, I wasn’t as shaken as I thought I’d be. After all, they had carried lethal weapons and tried to kill me with superior numbers.

Inside a dungeon was different from outside. Here, people committed crimes without hesitation for their own greed.

Kill or be killed. If you let your guard down and hesitated, no number of lives would be enough.

“That’s right. So, I’m not in the wrong.”

Now then, what to do with their belongings? If I sold their weapons and armor, I could get some money, but…

“If their deaths are confirmed, the sales record might trace back to me. And if other hunters find them with their gear gone, they’ll suspect me of murder.”

I only struck back in self-defense. If I looted their possessions, I’d be no different from the PK scum.

So I left the bodies where they were and headed for the boss room.
