Konbini Ossan Volume 3 Chapter 20 — First Battle in the Multi-Dungeon
We advanced through the Multi-Dungeon while keeping formation. I took the lead.
Behind me were Tio-kun and Tiana-chan. Further back, Joan-kun and Rosa-chan. Arisa held the rear.
Our first destination was the area rich in mineral resources. In dungeons that spawned golems, mineral veins were often found as a byproduct.
These veins regenerated repeatedly within the dungeon.
The leading theory was that they were like the waste products from the golem creation process.
In other words, the discarded residue formed mineral deposits.
Indeed, the type of golem that appeared always matched the type of minerals found in the veins.
Since weapons and armor would certainly sell well thanks to wartime demand, I was hoping we could secure some high-quality metal resources.
In fact, one of my skills was called «Blood Iron». It allowed me to dissolve metallic substances into my blood.
By using it, I could store far more metal resources than with a simple storage pouch.
The drawback was that both absorption and retrieval required my blood — meaning I had to create a wound.
And it only worked with metals, not with other minerals like gemstones or stone.
It was originally the skill of a hedgehog-like monster that sprouted a forest of metallic spikes from its body. No wonder it was so inflexible.
As we advanced through the mineral zone, before finding a vein, we ran into monsters.
Golems. Their metallic bodies looked sturdy, but they weren’t actually much of a threat.
The ones that appeared early on were called Aluminum Plate Golems. They were nothing more than rock golems covered in thin aluminum plating.
Slow to move, with some power, but no real danger of landing a hit.
A bit of knocking around and any rookie adventurer could easily take them down.
That said, in large numbers they became troublesome. Their durability was high, so getting surrounded meant it was nearly impossible to break through.
Rushing in recklessly would just get you crushed.
And now, there were eight of them ahead of us. For a rookie, this was the kind of situation where retreat was the only option.
“Um, Ojisan… will it be alright?”
Tiana-chan’s worried voice came from behind.
“It’s fine. Enemies of this level aren’t even worth calling enemies. Watch.”
I deliberately spoke with confidence, so they could feel reassured.
Then, I charged straight at the golems. For an ordinary adventurer, this would be reckless.
The correct tactic was to retreat slowly, engaging only a few at a time unless you had overwhelming attack power.
But fortunately, I had a convenient disposal skill.
Without hesitation, I leapt right into the middle of the golem pack. Their sluggish movements all turned toward me.
Just as they were about to strike, I activated a certain skill.
DONNNNNN!
A thunderous explosion rang out.
And it came from right at my center. The blast engulfed me along with the surrounding golems, shattering them to pieces.
In an instant, all eight golems were nothing more than scrap.
“Phew, that’s done.”
“Hold up! ‘Done’? Are you kidding me?!”
Arisa’s voice rose in protest.
“Old man, did you seriously just blow yourself up too?”
“Yes, that’s right. After all, I was using the skill «Self-Destruct».”
The skill I had used was called «Self-Destruct» — a technique that detonated everything around me, including myself.
By mixing life force and magic power, it unleashed destructive force. With careful control, the self-damage could be kept minimal while inflicting heavy damage outward.
But this was only possible now. Back when I had low stats, using it would have killed me outright.
Now, with my stats raised, the self-damage had become negligible. Which meant I could self-destruct as much as I wanted.
If I healed the wounds afterward with recovery magic, the only real cost was magic power.
Which made «Self-Destruct» an extremely efficient attack method, as long as one’s stats were high enough.
“Well… I already knew you were insane, old man. But self-destruct? Seriously?”
After my explanation, Arisa could only look exasperated.
“Otsugi-oji-san, you really have some amazing skills.”
“As expected of a first-rate adventurer.”
Tio-kun and Tiana-chan looked at me with admiration.
“Oji-chan, you’re hilarious!”
Joan laughed with delight.
“I’m just glad you’re okay, Oji-chan.”
Rosa’s concern warmed me. Such a good kid.
“Still though… surviving a blast like that? Just how high are your stats, old man?”
“You’re right. Perhaps it’s better if I show you.”
At Arisa’s words, I realized I hadn’t revealed my own status to everyone yet.
Sharing information was important. Keeping only my stats secret would be unfair and dishonorable. I needed to show them properly.
