Konbini Ossan Volume 3 Chapter 19 — The Multi-Dungeon near the Capital

A few days later, with Isabella’s permission granted, Rosa-chan was able to join us on the dungeon expedition.

After several more days of preparation, we were finally ready to head to the dungeon Maria had recommended.

Thus, we arrived at the large dungeon on the outskirts of the royal capital, commonly called the "Multi-Dungeon".

This so-called Multi-Dungeon was, more precisely, several mid-sized dungeons that had become connected within.

Because of that, it offered a wide variety of resources, yet its difficulty remained very low for a dungeon of its scale.

It was extremely convenient not only for adventurers but also for the kingdom.

That such a convenient dungeon existed right next to the capital almost seemed too good to be true.

But in truth, it was probably the other way around. Cities like the royal capital had developed precisely because valuable dungeons like this one were nearby.

In other words, people built the city here because the dungeon made it convenient.

“Well then, shall we?”

Standing at the entrance of the Multi-Dungeon, I called to those behind me — Joan-kun, Rosa-chan, Tiana-chan, Tio-kun, and finally Arisa at the rear.

“I’m so pumped for this! Right, Rosa?”

“Yeah. I’m a little scared, but if Otsugi-ojichan is here, then I’ll be fine.”

Rosa-chan and Joan-kun chatted cheerfully.

“We can both use simple spells, so please let us help with the fighting.”

“Me too. Ojisan, I’ll be counting on you.”

Tio-kun and Tiana-chan looked full of determination.

“I’ll keep an eye on the kids so they don’t get separated. Old man, you just focus on taking down the monsters.”

Arisa volunteered to guard the rear.

“Leave it to me. I should be able to handle all the monsters myself, so there won’t be any problems.”

According to Maria’s information, the strongest monsters in the Multi-Dungeon were only around the C rank in stats.

Even then, that was limited to the so-called floor bosses — the equivalent of what games would call a "boss monster."

Since the dungeon was so popular, all traps had long been removed. The pathways were maintained, and there were hardly any blind spots.

Years of continuous exploration for resources had left it thoroughly cultivated.

Incidentally, research had revealed that dungeons themselves were a kind of monster. In other words, they were monsters that produced other monsters.

Inside, they held vast magical spaces and endlessly spawned the types of monsters unique to each dungeon.

Why dungeons behaved this way was still unknown. The most widely accepted theory was that there was no real purpose behind it.

Much like how creatures with weak reproductive abilities had been weeded out by natural selection, by chance, some monster with the ability to spawn other monsters survived.

Those that persisted became what we now call dungeons.

Of course, there were also more dubious theories — that they were divine relics left to mankind by the gods of old, and so on.

I shook off the idle thoughts. Now was the time for dungeon exploration. For gathering resources and leveling up.

“First, let me see everyone’s status. Since this is power-leveling, I want to know how much you’ll grow.”

At my request, the five of them each revealed their status plates.

Overall, just as I had expected. Tiana-chan and Tio-kun, both aspiring adventurers, had slightly higher stats, while Rosa’s were lower.

What surprised me was that every one of them had either a skill or an attribute. Especially Rosa and Joan.

Perhaps these four children really did possess the talent to become adventurers.
