Konbini Ossan Volume 1 Chapter 33 – Arisa's Circumstances of Expulsion
I managed to calm down the excitable Arisa and got her into a state where we could talk.
Then we sat on a sofa, and I listened to the details of her situation.
As expected, Arisa had been expelled from the royal palace. The reason lay in her skill, «Calculator».
Apparently, it's a skill that allows for computer-like high-speed calculations, but since Arisa herself isn’t very smart, she didn’t know how to use it.
Because of that, her progress had stalled significantly. Before she knew it, Arisa had fallen to the bottom of the school caste.
Even a guy named Mayama, apparently a despised otaku in the class, made fun of her.
She was constantly insulted by her gyaru friends and the guys who used to follow her around.
At times, she was even called a "meat toilet" and nearly forced into sexual acts.
(E/N: Wtf, that's disgusting behaviour!)
She said she barely managed to protect herself thanks to the help of some knights.
During those days at the royal palace, her expulsion was finally decided.
Arisa protested, but they told her that since they had already expelled someone like me before, they couldn’t let her off the hook either.
I see — that must be why she concluded that her expulsion was my fault.
After being kicked out, she headed to the Adventurers’ Guild, as suggested by one of the knights, and from there on, it played out as I saw.
Unable to accept a single request and completely at a loss.
“Let me just say this — the palace would’ve expelled you even if I weren’t there.”
“Shut up! So now you too are saying I’m useless?”
“No, that’s not it.”
I explained in detail that the royal palace intended to use the heroes — the students of Mutsugaya High School — as tools of war.
I also mentioned that I had solid confirmation of this from people like Marceline.
Arisa immediately quieted down.
“So... I might’ve been made to kill people.”
“That’s right. Fortunately, the palace had no foresight and expelled you. Thanks to that, you no longer have to be involved in war.”
“But if I can’t survive, I’ll just die anyway. Either way, that sucks.”
“It’s going to be okay.”
I said this firmly. Arisa scowled at me.
“What the hell do you know?”
“I do know. I’m going to take care of you.”
“Hah? What the hell are you talking about?”
She growled suspiciously at me.
“Well, you see, I’ve been fairly successful as an adventurer and have saved up quite a bit.
…
Today, I was actually planning to buy a house and start a new business. I’d like you to work at my shop — live-in employment.
…
You’ll have a place to sleep, and it’s much safer than adventuring. What do you say? It’s a good deal, isn’t it?”
As I explained, Arisa stared at me with a blank look on her face.
After a brief pause, she asked:
“Why are you going that far for me? I don’t get it. We’re total strangers.”
“Well, we’re not exactly strangers, Arisa-san. What’s your mother’s name?”
“Huh? It’s Norie.”
“She’s my older sister.”
As soon as I said that, Arisa froze. She was clearly shocked.
“In other words, I’m your maternal uncle. From my perspective, you’re a dear niece. Of course I’d want to help you.”
The more I explained, the more Arisa’s face filled with surprise. Then, trembling, she pointed at me and asked:
“W-Wait... are you Yuichi-oniichan?!”
“Oh, so you’ll still call me that? I’m happy to hear it after so long.”
“No way! Your face looks completely different!”
“Well, the last time we met, I hadn’t yet been crushed by work. I still got proper sleep back then, so I probably looked a lot better.”
“It’s not just your complexion, though. You’re like a completely different person!”
(E/N: No wonder she couldn't recognise him; but still can the change be that drastic?)
She seemed really confused and still couldn’t believe I was Yuichi-oniichan.
So I decided to dig up that story.
“The last time we met was during summer break, right? You ate too much shaved ice and wet the bed during your nap. I had to clean it up afterward — it was a whole ordeal.”
“Wh-what kind of story is that?! Why the hell would you bring that up now?!”
“Do you believe I’m Yuichi-oniichan now?”
“Ugh... yeah, I believe you, but still!”
Arisa buried her face in her hands. Looks like I’ve gained her trust — that’s good.
“The Yuichi-oniichan I had a crush on was a cool, mysterious guy... how’d he end up turning into this weird old man... This is too much. He was my first love... this is devastating.”
(E/N: Girl, stay the f away from yo Uncle, he's a freak! 😂)
She mumbled something in a low voice I couldn’t make out. If I had activated my «Eavesdrop» skill, maybe I could have caught it.
“Well then, Arisa-san. Now that you believe I’m Yuichi-oniichan, let me ask again.”
I got back to the main point.
“Would you like to work as an employee at the shop I’m about to open?”
Upon hearing the offer again, Arisa lowered her gaze as if thinking it over. Then, after a short pause, she said:
“I still don’t like you, old man. But I’m not cut out to be an adventurer either. Guess I don’t have much of a choice.”
With that, she held out her right hand.
I took her hand and we shook on it.
“Well then, I look forward to working with you, Arisa-san.”
“Tch. Yeah, whatever.”
She turned her face away. Her cheeks looked a little red.
That much blood rushing to her face — she must really not like me.

E/N:
And Arisa's a tsundere too. It makes sense for the virgin Ossan to be dense af. Just hoping Ossan is simply a doting Ossan!

Puzzling that the Goddess would give the calculation skill to someone without the mindset to use it. Was the goddess trying to sabotage the hero summoning? She gave the instant kill skill to the guy that was always threatening to kill people too.
ReplyDeleteThat's why, either she's an idiot like many of her peers in other WNs or she's a cunning fox.
