Konbini Ossan Volume 1 Chapter 5 – Bonus Skill of the Hero Summoning
When I came to, I was standing in a pure white space.
Around me were many high school students — all wearing Mutsugaya High School uniforms.
Among them were also some adults, but they were shouting instructions at the students, so they were probably teachers.
Arisa was not nearby. Nor were the three boys from before.
As I was observing the situation, a voice suddenly echoed out.
“Welcome, brave heroes. We are honored by your arrival.”
It was a gentle, comforting female voice.
But the suddenness of it startled the students.
Well, anyone would be surprised if a disembodied voice spoke out in such a strange, surreal place.
Suddenly being transported to a blank world and hearing a voice from nowhere would be overwhelming, especially for kids.
But for me, a convenience store clerk used to being suddenly punched by customers or dealing with unseen complaint callers, this wasn’t that big of a deal.

“Please calm yourselves first. I will explain your current situation.”
The woman’s voice gently soothed the students. Thanks to her tone, they gradually regained their composure.
Once the crowd had quieted down, the voice continued.
“There exists a world in a different dimension from your own. In that world, a Demon King has appeared and threatens the peace.
…
One country in that world has chosen to summon heroes from another dimension — you all — to stand against the Demon King.”
“Whoa, it’s a hero summoning! This is that ‘class transfer’ thing!”
One of the students shouted excitedly. But after sharp looks from the others, he quickly quieted down.
“The ritual of hero summoning was performed, and you were all gathered here as a result.”
“Hold on a second!”
One of the male students raised his voice. Despite his bleached blond hair and piercings, he had an earnest look about him.
“We’re not heroes! We’re just normal high school students! You expect us to fight a Demon King or something?
…
We don’t have any special powers or experience. You can’t expect ordinary people like us to accept this out of nowhere!”
“Your words are entirely reasonable.”
The woman’s voice replied with a hint of sorrow.
“However, it was that country that performed the summoning. I had no power to stop it. Nor do I have the ability to return you to your world.”
“Um… who exactly are you, anyway?”
A girl’s voice asked an honest question. I turned to look and was surprised—it was the same girl who had kindly spoken to me during lunch today.
“I am the goddess who manages the world you’ve been summoned to.”
With that answer, the entire space stirred with unease.
After all, it was a goddess speaking to them. And even she was saying she couldn’t send us back.
That meant... we might never return to our world again. Naturally, the students began to panic.
As for me, I didn’t have much to leave behind, so I wasn’t particularly concerned.
Oh — but I did leave some miso soup in the pot. What a waste. I should’ve had a second bowl last night if I knew this was going to happen.

“Your arrival in my world is already set in stone. It cannot be stopped. However, I can grant you special powers to make your life in my world easier.”
The goddess continued.
“In my world, there are things like magic and skills — special abilities. You will be summoned while receiving these gifts. In a world full of monsters, those powers will be essential for your survival.”
“This is awesome! Cheat skills, baby! Let’s go!”
Another boy blurted out excitedly. He was promptly glared at again by everyone around him.
“Indeed,” said the goddess. “In the language of your world, these would be considered cheat skills. The powers I grant are very strong.”
So, the boy wasn’t exactly wrong.
“Now then, I will begin calling names. When your name is called, please raise your hand.”
And just like that, the time came for the goddess to bestow her special abilities — cheat skills.
