Konbini Ossan Volume 17 Chapter 2 — The People Thereafter
As I watched the goblins playing together with Arisa, my thoughts drifted to everything that had happened over these past ten years.
Kēichi Kanehama.
As one of the key figures behind resolving the Douki Incident, he returned to the Kingdom of Runegard in triumph.
His achievements were recognized, and he was granted the title of a new frontier count.
He received territory facing the Great Forest Autonomous Region, in other words, land directly neighboring my country, becoming the lord of his own domain.
Apparently, he has five wives.
As expected of a Hero, I could only be impressed.
(E/N: Tf you talkin' about, Ossan!😭🤣)
Now, it seems he spends his days racing from east to west to improve the lives of his people.
I wonder when was it that I received that rather unique report about how he blasted apart barren land with his Hero swordsmanship to open up new farmland.
Yōta Tōdō.
He founded a school called Tōdō-style Heroic Swordsmanship, but because he was the intuitive type who relied heavily on his skill rather than theory, disciples kept fleeing one after another.
Then, around five years ago, a girl claiming to have once been saved by Tōdō suddenly showed up at his dojo.
Fortunately, she had a talent for theory, and by translating his words into something easier to understand, Tōdō-style Heroic Swordsmanship was reborn as the “Tōdō Single Transmission School”, gradually increasing its number of disciples.
But having gotten carried away, or rather, having gained some breathing room, he began focusing less on his own school and more on trying to spread baseball throughout this world.
Apparently, because there was no rulebook in this world, and because he himself had always played by instinct, he was struggling terribly to convey the finer nuances.
No matter how famous he may be as a Sword Saint, whether it spreads before I die should be interesting to see.
Yūki Matsuriya.
He had been researching a spell to increase sensitivity three thousandfold, so I forcibly made him stop.
(E/N: Brain-frick org**m or what? 😂)
When Shuri-kun summoned him for what he called “a matter of profound interest”, and he enthusiastically showed up only to find him waiting in the room, I became certain my judgment had been correct.
His abilities as the Sage of the Hero’s party are unquestionably genuine, and he has now taken over Shuri-kun’s former position as a court magician of the Kingdom of Runegard.
Raymond Sylvarius Maxwell, better known as Shuri-kun.
He quit his position as court magician of the Kingdom of Runegard and now spends his days and nights conducting whatever research he pleases in the underground laboratory beneath our home.
For the record, about half of it isn’t suspicious, so there’s no problem.
By the way, sometime last year, he somehow ended up fathering a child carrying his blood.
Who the other parent is, how it happened, and many other questions naturally arose, but all information was classified.
(E/N: Wait… It's you, Ossan! You freak! 😂)
Tiana and Tio.
The two had already been successful adventurers to begin with, but the Douki Incident raised their fame even further.
Because the two of them lived in the Great Forest Autonomous Region, many adventurers from the Kingdom of Runegard migrated here.
Fortunately, there were few ill-mannered adventurers. Most were more like personal guard fanatics who admired the two of them.
At present, they work as star adventurers in the Adventurer’s Guild operated under the Great Forest Autonomous Region’s own independent system.
Rumors apparently circulate about some suspicious relationship between the two and me, their adoptive father-in-law, but there is absolutely no truth to that.
It is surely just a misunderstanding caused by how physically affectionate the two are.
(E/N: Sure, suuuuuure…🙂)
Rosa.
She became my adopted daughter and now holds positions in multiple departments of Otogi Trading.
In practice, she only works in the clothing division, but officially she lends her name to other departments to make it easier for their requests to pass through upper management.
She also holds the role of overseeing business operations in the royal capital of the Kingdom of Runegard, so she normally works there.
That likely also makes it easier for her to repay the orphanage she came from.
Once a year, she returns to the Great Forest Autonomous Region, and when she does, I indulge her as much as she wants.
Satira.
Three years ago, with the state of war between the Demon King’s Territory and the Kingdom of Runegard officially lifted, the Demon King’s army was disbanded.
It was divided among the various provinces within the territory, reduced in scale, and remains in existence now as provincial armies.
Among those forces, she was transferred to the Heavenly Province, a province governed by winged demi-humans.
Apparently, her ability to wield both light and darkness simultaneously has made her an object of strong admiration among some of the younger generation.
Leonis.
Like Satira, he was transferred into the provincial forces, serving as a general in the Demi Province.
It is a province where many different kinds of demi-humans coexist, and how it develops will carry important meaning for the future relationship between the Kingdom of Runegard and the Demon King’s Territory, and by extension, for the Great Forest Autonomous Region as well.
I visit for inspections from time to time, and we meet whenever I do.
His admiration for Vladgaria has not changed in the slightest, and he is still annoyingly insistent about hearing updates on her.
Ichiro Suzuki.
There were calls for him to serve as a general in the Human Province’s provincial army, but he declined.
Saying that a life spent supporting others suited him better, he obtained adventurer qualifications in the Great Forest Autonomous Region before returning to the Human Province.
The vast majority of those living in the Human Province are humans.
Compared to demi-humans, they are physically weaker, and many are descendants of prisoners or displaced minority groups, so quite a few demi-humans look down on their status.
As a result, development across almost the entirety of the Human Province has lagged behind, and even in this day and age, there are still many settlements living in fear of monsters.
He was the one who proposed bringing the Adventurer’s Guild into the Human Province, made it happen, and now travels from place to place as a benevolent adventurer, devoted to exterminating monsters.
Apparently, he is respected under the nickname “Wind Cross”, named after the twin wind swords he wields in both hands.
Metidovan.
After the Douki Incident, he devoted everything to research aimed at preventing similar disasters before they could occur.
Until recently, he continued researching curses and malevolent resentment, but eventually felt he had reached his limits.
In time, he set out on a journey to investigate beings that were no longer human, undead lacking intelligence, mysterious creatures of unknown origin.
Many such beings inhabit the Wastesea Autonomous Region within the Demon King’s Territory, a barren land isolated from the outside world.
Naturally, he stepped into the Wastesea Autonomous Region for the sake of his research.
No one has seen him since, and whether his research ever bore fruit remains unknown.

E/N:
We've reached the reminiscence arc, the finale and reading and editing this gave me great joy!
Also, I guess I screwed up from the beginning by calling him Shuri-kun even though it should have been Syl-kun but I just wanted his name to be unique. I hope y'all forgive me for that. His middle name will be Sylvarius nonetheless.
Stay tuned!
