Konbini Ossan Volume 16 Chapter 7 — The Path Carved Open

“A-Amazing. To this extent...”

Watching Joan, Tiana, and Tio fighting through the live feed, Kanehama let out a voice of admiration.

“At this rate, couldn’t they possibly be as strong as us?”

“Who can say? But the fact that they can defeat Douki so easily means it wouldn’t be wrong to say they possess power equivalent to status SSSSS.”

Kanehama swallowed hard at my words.

Then, a transmission came in.

“Yūichi! The path’s opening up!”

It was good news from Arisa.

“If you head straight for the Mediterranean right now, the path-clearing will finish at just the right time!”

“Got it, Arisa! Thanks!”

After answering, I turned my gaze toward everyone gathered here.

“Mediterranean assault team, let’s move out!”

And so, the seven strongest elites set off toward the Mediterranean.

When we arrived at the Mediterranean, just as Arisa had reported, the Douki had just been wiped out by a gravity wave bombing run.

“Well then. We’ve arrived, but...”

I said, turning toward Kanehama.

In the strategy meeting beforehand, Kanehama had declared that he would carve open the path leading to the dark domain at the bottom of the Mediterranean. The question was, how exactly he intended to do it.

“Leave this to me, just as planned.”

Saying that, Kanehama stepped forward and drew his sword.

“The power of a Hero isn’t meant to destroy something. It’s meant to carve open humanity’s future, the path we’re meant to walk, to become a beacon of hope.”

As he spoke, Kanehama’s magical power surged.

That immense magic burst upward, accompanied by a golden radiance.

“That’s why it wasn’t meant for killing monsters. I always thought the moment to truly use it would be somewhere else, for something entirely different.”

The growing magical power converged into Kanehama’s sword.

“But now I understand! If this sea stands in the way as a wall blocking humanity’s future, then I’ll carve it open with my blade!”

At that instant, light erupted from Kanehama’s sword.

The light stretched upward, towering into the sky like an immense pillar.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!

Kanehama brought down that heaven-piercing light.

The light split the sea apart, extending endlessly into the distance, until at last it reached the very bottom of the Mediterranean.

That uninterrupted slash of light, stretching without end, reached all the way to the dark domain on the seabed.

And so, the sea was parted, and a path was physically carved open.

“Th-This is something else.”

“So? This is about all a Hero can do. But I’d say it’s more than enough for support.”

Saying that, Kanehama sheathed his sword.

Strangely, the severed walls of seawater remained suspended, held in place by the light, showing no sign of collapsing back into place.

I had never imagined he would resort to such brute force.

“More than enough? This is magnificent work.”

At my words, Kanehama smiled in satisfaction.
