Konbini Ossan Volume 16 Chapter 16 — To God
When I came to, I was lying in a pure white space.
On a whim, I checked my own status.
“Status, open.”

Even my name, everything, was displayed as ERROR.
I understood at once.
So this was proof of having reached godhood.
“Well done, Yuichi Otogi.”
Suddenly, a voice echoed from nowhere.
And then the one who appeared was a familiar face.
The goddess we had met when we were summoned to this other world.
The former Hero, Avril.
“Though I guess there’s no point making a dramatic entrance like that~★”
The moment she said that, Avril dropped the act, her expression softening into something much more casual.
“So, you’ve probably got all kinds of questions, right? Go ahead, ask away?”
“Then I won’t hold back.”
Things were moving so quickly that I felt slightly bewildered, but there was something I had to ask first.
“Have I become a god?”
“Probably yes, partially yes.”
With an oddly intense face and a serious expression, Avril answered, somehow having put on a turban at some point.
“Ah, don’t get disappointed so fast!”
Maybe it showed on my face, because Avril hurriedly threw the turban aside and rushed to reassure me.
“Your soul and that child’s soul had good compatibility.”
Following where Avril pointed, I saw the familiar Candy Goblin boy lying there, asleep.
“The two of you have become something like a fused existence, together obtaining the power worthy of becoming a god. But that doesn’t mean you yourself fulfilled the conditions to become a god.”
“Then... is there a way for me to avoid becoming one?”
When I asked, Avril shook her head.
“If you separate from that child, you can return to normal. Of course, the surface world would return to normal too, but... considering how that child would feel after being betrayed, well?”
“I see...”
Disappointment began creeping back into my mind.
“Ugh, what a troublesome old man you are! If you’ve got questions, ask them properly! Don’t just make assumptions and mope on your own!”
She had a point.
“Then, can I return to where I came from?”
“Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!”
(E/N: You ain't JOTARO, you crappy Goddess! 😂)
Avril answered while somehow now wearing a bizarre hat that looked like it might actually be part of her hair.
“Can I go back to living normally with Arisa and the people precious to me? Is there a way?”
“Yes!”
Avril tossed the hat aside, then abruptly became serious.
“To begin with, why do you think Summoned Ones need to become gods? Well, gods want subordinates too. People to help with their work.”
Avril revealed things from the gods’ side of the equation.
“When a Summoned One tied to a god reaches godhood, they automatically become that god’s subordinate. So naturally, gods help with summonings to increase their workforce.”
“And what does that have to do with this?”
At my question, Avril simplified it neatly.
“In other words, there’s no absolute reason you have to become a god right now, this instant!”
Then she smiled.
“And since you’d be my subordinate, it’s only natural that I get to decide when you start working, right?”
She said it with a playful wink.
“You neutralized that child, who was on the verge of becoming the God of Cursed Grudge. As a result, you saved this world, which was created for gods to be born from, and produced an outcome beneficial to the gods. So as an appropriate reward, some flexibility is allowed.”
Then Avril sharply pointed a finger at me.
“Got it? I’ll wait until you live out your natural lifespan. But after that, I’m going to work you like a dog as my underling, so you’d better be prepared!”
In other words, Avril was using her authority to make an exception for me.
Because of that, I would be able to return to the original world and see the people precious to me again.
“Avril, thank you very much.”
The words of gratitude came naturally.
And Avril immediately answered in a teasing tone.
“Nope, nope. Since you’re going to be my subordinate, you need to address me properly as ‘Avril-senpai’~♪.”
“Uh... right.”
“Isn’t the word Senpai just great?! Anime means Senpai! Senpai means Anime! Gahhh! I always dreamed of this!”
Smack, smack, Senpai Avril repeatedly slapped my back.
“Are you perhaps trying to hide your embarrassment?”
“W-Where did that come from?!”
“You were looking out for me so I wouldn’t end up with regrets like yours, weren’t you?”
“Ahhh, shut up, shut up! I can’t hear you!”
Avril-senpai covered her ears and pretended not to hear.
“Quit saying unnecessary things and hurry back to your world! Alright, off you go!”
“Wah!”
The next instant, Senpai Avril shoved me.
A sensation of falling somewhere overtook me, and my consciousness began fading again.
The last thing I saw was Avril-senpai smiling brightly and waving at me.

E/N:
Phew, so he's back! And that leads to the end of the second last Volume of this Series!
Avril wasn't a villain and that makes me happy but she's still an idiot!
Next Volume… the last one, is also a short one and the Series will end… Look forward to it!
Stay tuned!
