Soul Devourer Chapter 6 Episode 5 — The Inferior Lion

The moment I passed through the dungeon entrance, the scenery changed completely.

A vast stretch of bare earth.

Short grasses and shrubs grew here and there, spreading across a field with an unobstructed view in every direction, a landscape much like a savanna.

As I swept my gaze around, I could see scattered hunters engaged in battle against humanoid monsters.

“I see... this place is pretty much a free-for-all.”

Leading Samael and the others, I advanced deeper into the field.

At that moment-!

A massive cloud of dust billowing ahead rushed toward us.

The next instant-!

About ten meters away, a figure leaped into the air.

The shadow descending from above rapidly grew larger, then slammed a fist down with all its momentum behind it.

THOOM!

I reflexively raised my left arm and blocked.

Even so, the force behind the strike was so tremendous that the ground beneath our feet caved in dramatically.

The figure immediately jumped back to create distance.

Taking a proper look at it…

It had the face of a lion crowned with a magnificent mane.

Its muscular body was covered in fur, standing firmly upon the earth on two legs. A lion monster that walked upright.

“So its name is... Ugalurum.”

I glanced over its skill composition and snorted.

“A completely straightforward close-combat fighter. And on top of that…”

There was no light of intelligence in its eyes.

Only beastly instinct dwelled within them.

It resembled the beastfolk that often appeared in fantasy stories, but there wasn't the slightest trace of intellect.

“An inferior version of the Infight Monkey... not really my opponent.”

That said…

“I've been using a bow so much lately. Maybe it's time for some hand-to-hand combat again.”

Cracking my knuckles, I stepped forward.

As if responding, Ugalutum kicked off the ground.

The distance between us vanished in an instant.

I deflected its sharp punch with the back of my hand and slipped straight into its guard.

“…Hah!”

The punch I thrust forward effortlessly pierced through Ugalulum's solar plexus.

Without missing a beat, I ripped my fist free, twisted my body, and leaped.

A falling axe kick carrying the force of gravity smashed directly into the top of Ugalurum's head.

The next moment-!

Its head exploded.

Chunks of flesh and blood sprayed in every direction as the powerful body lost all strength and collapsed to the ground.

Immediately afterward, notifications rang through my mind.

『Level 127 UP』

『Magic Power +29』

『Strength +40』

『Endurance +54』

『Agility +33』

『Intelligence +29』

『Spirit +59』

『Dexterity +29』

『Luck +39』

“At this level, even Samael and the others won't have any problems.”

I muttered while glancing at the fallen corpse.

After storing the headless Ugalurum's body inside the《Magic Pouch》, I gave orders to my subordinates.

“Samael. You can eat the corpses as you like. Just make sure to leave the magic stones behind. Tamuel, Nox, keep hunting as well, but don't stray too far from me.”

(E/N: Tamuel, short for Santa Muerte)

It seemed they understood.

My experience was shared with them, but I also wanted them to gain actual combat experience.

That said, if they spread out too much, there was a chance nearby hunters would start paying attention to them.

Individually, they could easily defeat even S-Rank hunters.

But if they were surrounded by multiple parties, that would be a different story.

“I can't afford to let my guard down...”

I took a light breath while scanning the surroundings.

“For now, let's hunt around a hundred of them.”

And so we continued pushing through the field, crushing the Ugalurums that attacked us on instinct one after another.

Eventually…

When our combined kill count reached roughly one hundred…

We discovered a structure halfway up a small hill, its entrance opening unnaturally wide.

“So that's... the entrance leading to the boss room.”

Our destination was right ahead.
