Konbini Ossan Volume 15 — The God of Cursed Grudge | | Chapter 1 — Naming, Douki

The first to respond to the black goblins, and to do so proactively, was Metidovan.

We cannot forgive monsters that defile the land where our brethren sleep!

Declaring that, he sent equipment to the local Otogi Trading combat forces and had them carry out measurements to collect all manner of data.

Then, sacrificing even sleep, he analyzed the gathered data and arrived at a conclusion.

Now, we had assembled in the conference room to hear Metidovan’s analysis results.

Present were Arisa and myself, along with the members expected to serve as the core personnel in actual combat: Marceline, Joan, Tiana, and Tio. Saori, Yairo, and Vladgaria.

In addition, Leonis and Satira had come from the Demon King’s army as reinforcements.

From the Kingdom, not only Shuri-kun and Matsuriya, but even the Hero Kanehama had joined the meeting via long-distance communication.

It was rare for such a lineup to gather in one place.

“Now that everyone’s here, let us begin. Metidovan, please give your report.”

“Mm.”

After a brief pause, Metidovan began speaking.

“First, regarding the creature in question. Based on its appearance, I have named it ‘Douki’. Let me begin with what has been conclusively determined about them.”

Referring to the black goblins as Douki, Metidovan continued.

“As has already been established, every one of Douki’s stats is displayed as ERROR. In other words, there can be no doubt that they are beings that have fulfilled the conditions for attaining godhood.”

Everyone gathered here had already been told the truth about summoned beings.

With a monster that appeared to have reached godhood being born, and us needing to fight it, requesting cooperation while keeping everything secret would have been unreasonable.

Furthermore, to avoid fulfilling the conditions for godhood, there would likely be situations where we would need to carry out operations that seemed unnatural to those unaware of the truth.

Keeping it secret would only breed distrust.

“As for their skills, while the measurement data does not provide certainty, their stats can be estimated based on the attacks from Otogi Trading combat vehicles and the creatures’ responses.
The result is that their stat values are overwhelmingly likely to be equivalent to all SSSSS. From this fact as well, Douki must be considered beings that have attained godhood.”

“I have a question. If that’s the case, then why do Douki still exist in this world? Wouldn’t becoming a god mean disappearing from this world?
And there are countless Douki, aren’t there? Did that many gods suddenly come into existence all at once?”

Kanehama voiced the obvious question.

Metidovan, as expected, seemed to have prepared an answer.

“Of course. That point has also been examined. To state the conclusion first, Douki are not beings that attained godhood themselves, but rather the power of a being that attained godhood affecting this world and giving rise to what are, in essence, autonomous attack spells.”

The conclusion stunned everyone.

“Otogi Trading’s attack forces have already carried out various operations, and multiple facts have emerged from the observations.
One is that all Douki share awareness. This conclusion comes from several instances where Douki, despite supposedly encountering Otogi Trading’s bizarre weaponry for the first time, accurately defended against or destroyed them.
Therefore, Douki are likely not separate monsters, but either entities created by a single monster, or merely fragments that make up that monster.”

That made sense.

Many of Otogi Trading’s weapons were inspired by Earth’s modern weaponry or science fiction works.

It would be virtually impossible to counter them accurately at first sight without prior knowledge or context.

“Second, Douki possess no biological physical form, and are being endlessly generated from nothing at the bottom of the Mediterranean.
Furthermore, the central region, like Douki themselves, is covered in darkness, but observation has succeeded. It appears there is ‘nothing’ there.”

“Nothing?”

When I asked, Metidovan frowned.

“Precisely as the words imply. There was no sign whatsoever of some powerful monster, nor of any object capable of producing Douki.
The observations showed nothing there but the highly saline waters of the Mediterranean and reactions consistent with the seafloor. In other words, the monster called Douki exists nowhere in this world.”

The astonishing revelation left everyone speechless.

“How are we supposed to fight a monster that does not exist?”

Leonis muttered before he could stop himself, and everyone nearly found themselves agreeing.

But Metidovan still had more to report, and continued.

“Thinking about countermeasures comes after thoroughly investigating the enemy. That is not what we should concern ourselves with right now.”

With that, he resumed the report.

“Now then. What is this monster, Douki, which does not exist in this world? Conveniently, we possess knowledge that can answer that question. The ability of summoned beings to attain godhood.”

The mere thought of a hostile god was exhausting, but I listened carefully.

“In other words, Douki are the result of a being who attained godhood for some reason. However, that being had cause to attack this world. Therefore, even after departing from this world, its power continues to manifest from the bottom of the Mediterranean, carrying on its dark corrosion.”

“So that prediction isn’t just a random guess, right?”

At Shuri-kun’s question, Metidovan nodded.

“Of course not. That land has a history tied to a being who could very well have gained the power to attain godhood, and who would have every reason to hate everything in this world.”

“The Candy Goblins, huh…”

I realized it at once.

Certainly, if it were the Candy Goblins…
