Soul Devourer Chapter 4 Episode 31 — The Quiet Plaza and Mounting Anticipation

Thanks to having my fill at the restaurant Yong brought me to, both my hunger and fatigue had completely vanished.

My body and mind were in perfect condition. As preparation for challenging the final S-rank dungeon, I couldn’t ask for better.

After paying the bill and stepping outside, a gentle warmth brushed my cheek. I got into the parked car, and the moment I fastened my seatbelt, the engine started.

The vehicle cruised forward, heading through the city streets toward the final S-Rank dungeon.

Along the way, the noise of passing pedestrians and the hum of traffic blended together beyond the window, drifting into the distance.

Inwardly, I reflected on the S-Rank dungeons I had conquered so far, my excitement steadily building for what lay ahead.

Before long, we arrived at the plaza that marked our destination. The car came to a stop, and as the subtle vibration faded, I glanced outside, and felt a sense of unease.

…Huh? Not a single hunter?

Every S-Rank dungeon plaza I had visited before had always been bustling with high-ranking hunters; chatting, checking their gear, holding final meetings with their teammates.

But here, there was truly no one.

Not an S-Rank hunter. Not even an S-Rank hunter. There was no sign of anyone attempting a clear. The silent plaza felt unnaturally empty, as if it had been deliberately cleared out.

There should still be the risk of a Stampede… How are they dealing with that?

No, this was another country. As an outsider, I had no place casually interfering. I understood that. Still, I needed to confirm the source of this strange atmosphere.

Yong stepped out and opened the rear door for me. I gave a slight nod as I got out, surveyed the surroundings once more, then turned back to him and spoke.

“Thank you for bringing me here. Yong, there’s something I’d like to ask.”

“What would that be?”

“Why isn’t there a single hunter here?”

At the question, Yong’s brow furrowed slightly for a moment.

“…Forgive me for answering a question with a question, but did Jin not tell you?”

“No. In fact, I wasn’t given any special explanation for the previous S-Rank dungeons either.”

“Then why ask now?”

“Because this plaza feels different. Unlike the other S-Rank dungeons I visited, there isn’t a single hunter here. There’s no sign of anyone attempting a clear. No matter how I look at it, it’s strange.”

“I see… That’s a reasonable question. The answer is simple. Compared to the S-Rank dungeons you have cleared so far, this one is more difficult.”

“More difficult…? But it’s still S-Rank, right?”

“Yes, without question it is S-Rank. However, this one is classified among the ‘upper tier’ of S-Rank.”

Even within S-Rank, there were upper and lower tiers. Just like hunters and monsters, dungeons too had disparities.

If that was the case, what kind of monster awaited in its depths?

Just imagining it made my chest burn with anticipation.

“Yong, thank you for explaining. The details… I’ll confirm them as I conquer it.”

“Understood. Please be careful.”

Yong gave a slight bow and saw me off.

With light steps, I headed toward the dungeon entrance, my expectations swelling.

The most difficult S-rank dungeon in this country.

And what awaits me there… I truly cannot wait to find out.
