Soul Devourer Chapter 4 Episode 18 — Midnight Assassins
Along the main avenue lined with bars, restaurants, live houses, and clubs, neon lights illuminated the damp night air, and there, I slaughtered the entire〈Vultures〉group.
After that, I got into Jin’s car and headed back to the hotel.
The hotel lobby was spacious, a chandelier hanging from the ceiling casting a dazzling glow. I received my room key at the front desk and took the elevator up to my room.
Without even setting down my equipment or items, I entered the bathroom and twisted the shower handle.
Warm water struck my shoulders, washing the scent of blood and sweat down the drain.
As the heat enveloped my body, the tension of battle slowly began to dissolve.
I dried myself with a bath towel, slipped into fresh clothes, and went back down to the lobby where Jin was waiting.
Together, we headed to the restaurant attached to the hotel and were shown to a private room. Before the dishes were laid out, Jin spoke.
“Hunter Matsubara, what are your plans for tomorrow?”
“Like today, I plan to visit S-rank dungeons. By the way, how many S-rank dungeons are there in this country?”
“Five. As with today, I will guide you in order of proximity. Is that acceptable?”
“Yes, please.”
The staff brought in the dishes we ordered, and the savory aroma made my stomach growl. I picked up my chopsticks and enjoyed the texture and flavor.
The meal concluded after about two hours. Jin said, “I will have the reward delivered to your room”, and then took his leave.
Instead of returning to my room, I headed to the large public bath.
I sank into the wide bath and absentmindedly stared at the ceiling lights.

When I returned to my room and threw myself onto the bed, drowsiness overtook me almost instantly.

Late at night. The hotel hallway lay silent, most guests already asleep.
Cutting through that silence, about ten figures dressed entirely in black crept toward Yuito’s room.
Black garments covered their bodies. Their footsteps made no sound.
They deftly unlocked the door, opened it slightly, and rolled in small pellets filled with poisonous smoke.
Purple-tinged smoke spread through the room.
They donned gas masks and drew short daggers coated with deadly poison from their waists.
After a short while, as the smoke thinned, they quietly entered. On the bed lay Yuito, a look of agony on his face.
His arms were limp at his sides, mouth half open… it seemed he had inhaled the poison and died. To be certain, the assassins raised their daggers and brought them down in unison.
But their blades cut through empty air.
There was no resistance. In the blink of an eye, the Yuito who had been there vanished.
“Who are you all?”
A low voice echoed.
All of them turned at once. There stood Yuito in his sleepwear. In both hands, short daggers had somehow already appeared.
“No intention of answering? …Then I’ll kill you all.”
In the next instant, the assassins activated【Stealth】and disappeared.
No sound, no presence, flawless coordination.
Under normal circumstances, the kill would have been certain. But Yuito had already seen through their movements completely.
Each time a dagger flashed, blood sprayed through the air. One assassin, then another, collapsed.
This is bad! Retreat!
The last one ran toward the window, trying to escape. The moment his hand reached for the night air outside, his vision spun.
His body slammed against the wall. The sensation of his severed head hitting the floor was the last thing he felt before his consciousness sank into darkness.
