Konbini Ossan Volume 9 Chapter 9 — Intruders Assault
The feast had grown lively. Most of the food had been eaten, and the drunken goblins were beginning to tire themselves out, with some even starting to fall asleep.
The first person to notice something unusual was Yairo.
“Master. I feel someone watching us from the darkness.”
Yairo whispers softly into my ear.
“An enemy?”
“Yes. They appear to be monitoring us, so the possibility is high.”
After receiving Yairo’s report, I also inform Govagova.
“Govagova-san. May I have a moment?”
“Yeah, what is it?”
I explain that, originally, we had been heading out to assist our allies in battle, and that enemies might be approaching.
After hearing this, Govagova says he was sorry for keeping us at the feast and then responds:
“We protect ourselves. Otogi, you fight freely!”
“Thank you. Then we will move to intercept them.”
With Govagova’s approval, it is time to deal with these suspicious figures.
All of us head toward the source of the gaze. Guided by Yairo, we move into the darkness of the forest.
The other side must have noticed us as well, because they begin moving away from the village.
“It seems they want to fight somewhere away from the settlement, where no one will interfere.”
Everyone nods at Yairo’s words.
And once we are sufficiently far from the village, the enemy finally comes into view.
The enemies appear to be several goblins.
However, their bodies are large enough that they could almost be called ogres, yet unlike Govagova’s muscular build, they are slender and seem extremely agile.
But the most distinctive feature is their faces.
There are five goblins in total, and every one of them has exactly the same face.
“So you noticed us after all. It seems you have gathered quite the force, Ichiro Suzuki.”
“Of course. We cannot allow you to do whatever you please, Metidovan.”
From the goblin who addressed Ichiro Suzuki, it becomes clear that these are the rumored homunculi controlled by Metidovan.
The real body likely isn’t here, but these goblins must be extensions of Metidovan himself; his limbs, acting according to his orders.
The one standing in the center and speaking with Ichiro Suzuki must be the command unit.
“However, your struggle ends here! Though specialized for scouting, these homunculi possess abilities comparable to S-rank adventurers! Here and now, I shall wipe out all of you along with him!”
Metidovan speaks excitedly, and as soon as he finishes, the five homunculi scatter.
Their movements are extremely fast, and their coordination is perfect, reminding us how troublesome homunculi controlled by a single mind can be.
However, there are limits to that.
Even if they are strong, they are only comparable to S-rank adventurers. Against us, that simply isn’t enough.
“They’re slow.”
The first to attack is Ichiro Suzuki. As he steps forward, wind begins to blow behind him. A magical tailwind amplifies his stride, allowing him to close the distance in an instant.
And the target he heads toward is one of the homunculi.
He grabs its head, lifts it into the air, and then activates another spell.
“Farewell!”
Ichiro Suzuki conjures a magical tornado that envelops the homunculus’s body and shreds it apart.
Torn to pieces by countless blades of wind, the homunculus is instantly rendered incapable of fighting. When the tornado subsides, he tosses aside the blood-soaked body.
“So this is what you call S-rank adventurer level? Honestly, underestimating the enemy’s strength is quite the problem, Metidovan.”
With a fearless grin, Ichiro Suzuki taunts Metidovan.
“Damn it! But this is not the end!”
Though clearly frustrated, Metidovan still does not seem to think he has lost.
Very well. From here on, the four of us from Otogi Trading Company will crush the rest.
