Konbini Ossan Volume 9 Chapter 19 — Siege Battle Begins
The next day, the operation finally began.
Riding in armored vehicles, we had our forces make a wide detour and position themselves behind the fortress.
Meanwhile, the Demon King’s army deployed openly from the front.
Due to differences in movement speed, both sides completed their deployment near the fortress at the same time, forming a perfect encirclement.
From the rebels’ perspective, they suddenly saw the Demon King’s army appear, and before they knew it, another army riding unfamiliar vehicles had surrounded them.
It must have been overwhelming.
In fact, as we observed through binoculars, they were struggling even to organize their defenses. Their formation was in complete disarray as they rushed to deploy.
“Shall we attack before they finish organizing?”
As I say this, I send orders to the troops using coded signal communication.
The defense forces encircling three sides, and the Demon King’s army holding the fourth, all begin their assault using evenly distributed siege weapons.
These are the latest weapons developed by Otogi Trading: Mana Cannons.
They have a mode that fires pure energy, and another that synchronizes with an object’s natural frequency to specialize in material destruction.
This time, we are using the material destruction mode.
Their lethality against living beings is low, and they are less effective against organic targets, but they are highly effective against materials like stone walls.
A simultaneous bombardment from all four directions. A total of three hundred cannons rain destruction upon the fortress walls.
With an effective range of 10 kilometers, far surpassing any siege weapon in this world, the long-range bombardment dismantles the walls unilaterally.
With each hit, the walls crumble further.
Naturally, the rebels are not foolish enough to remain idle in such a situation. They attempt a counterattack using their own siege weapons.
However, what they have are merely catapults and ballistae. Even the highest quality versions made with special materials in this world barely exceed a range of 1 kilometer.
There is no chance of them reaching us.
“This is completely one-sided.”
“Yes. With this kind of difference in range, they don’t stand a chance.”
I say this while observing the battlefield alongside Vladgaria.
Before long, the enemy attempts to address the range disadvantage.
Several dozen magic users line up on the remaining intact sections of the wall. They cast spells simultaneously, combining their power into a single amplified attack.
The enhanced fire magic flies toward our forces, positioned about 3 kilometers away from the fortress.
If it hit directly, it would be powerful enough to deal severe damage to our troops.
However, that will not happen.
“Deploy Mana Barriers!”
At my command, the armored vehicles positioned throughout the field activate their defense systems.
Barriers strong enough to withstand multiple direct hits from anti-materiel rifles are deployed.
The fire magic collides with the barriers and explodes before reaching our forces.
After the storm of flames and explosions subsides, what remains is an unharmed army, and armored vehicles standing firm as they deactivate their barriers.
Even their combined magic proved ineffective, and it is clear the rebels are shaken.
Their morale visibly drops, and one by one, their siege weapons fall silent. The soldiers operating them have likely given up.
Eventually, our bombardment completely destroys nearly all of the fortress walls. With nothing left to defend them, the rebels lose their will to fight.
One after another, they raise white flags and surrender.
“It seems things have gone well.”
“Indeed. Most of the rebels appear to be surrendering. Only the remnants inside the fortress remain.”
After nodding at my words, Vladgaria speaks.
“Now then, shall we deal with the remnants?”
“Yes, let’s go.”
We nod to each other and begin preparing to move out.
At last, the second phase of the operation, an assault into the fortress, begins.

E/N:
They brought out the freaking "Lazer Dome" ffs 🤣!
Anyway, apologies again for somewhat late upload, as stated in previous post… my parents had viral fever and were bedridden but today morning my father went unconscious and he had to be admitted to hospital… I'm a bit tired, more mentally than physically…
But that won't stop me from uploading more chapters! Hope you're still reading and enjoying what I post (of course, the content isn't mine to claim)!
Stay tuned!
