Konbini Ossan Volume 8 Chapter 38 — Responsibility, Once Again
“Yuichi-sama. Even I cannot defend you this time. Even if she was a troublesome person to deal with, shouldn’t you have spoken with her sincerely?”
“You’re absolutely right.”
At Maria’s words, I lower my head, unable to offer a single rebuttal.
“Hey, Yairo-neechan, you’ve known Darling for a long time, right?”
“Y-Yes, that’s correct.”
“How long are we talking about?”
“Um… since before our class was summoned as Heroes. Even after being summoned, I made sure to create free time as quickly as possible so I could go see the one I love.”
“I see. So you’ve known Darling longer than the rest of us.”
Joan seems to be trying to befriend Nanakamado.
“Honestly~… we worried for nothing. If someone like her existed, you should have told us sooner.”
“I’m sorry.”
Shirley also appears slightly upset. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem to be genuine anger.
“However, now that this has come to light, a separate issue arises apart from Yuichi-dono’s safety.”
“You’re thinking the same thing, right, Marceline-san?”
Arisa and Marceline exchange looks.
“Yes. In the end, Yuichi-dono, how do you intend to treat Yairo-dono? Until that is decided, our own positions cannot be determined.”
“Exactly. Should we eliminate her, or should we accept her? That’s not for us to decide. It’s up to Yuichi.”
Arisa turns her glare on me.
“So. What’s your answer?”
“What do you mean, what-?”
“Ugh, honestly! I’m asking if you’re going to take responsibility!”
Arisa pulls Nanakamado into a hug.
“She’s pitiful, isn’t she!? Used whenever it suited you, then left alone like that. If it were me, I wouldn’t just cry over it!”
“Um, no, it’s fine. I’m happy so long as it’s the judgment of the one I love, even if I’m treated as disposable.”
“See?! She’s devoted to you to this extent! Don’t you feel responsible?”
The more they say it, the heavier my guilt becomes.
“Yairo-dono, if I may ask. In recent years, what have you been doing for Yuichi-dono’s sake?”
“Well… mostly I spent my days watching the one I love. But occasionally someone would appear intending to harm him, so I dealt with those situations.”
“As I suspected. Then you must have faced considerable danger?”
“Nothing too serious… there were a few times I was immobilized by poison, but it wasn’t life-threatening-!”
“No, that is more than enough to be life-threatening.”
Marceline draws out the details of Nanakamado’s devotion. With every revelation, my guilt deepens.
Now that I think about it, I had always wondered why, considering the authority I hold, so few from the shadows ever targeted me.
I never imagined Nanakamado had been dealing with them.
“See? Yairo-chan has done this much for you. And you’re saying you won’t take responsibility just because she stalked you?”
“Well… being stalked is kind of a major factor, isn’t it?”
“Major enough to cancel out everything she’s done for you?”
(E/N: Like, nobody effin' asked her to do all that? This logic is guilt-tripping imo 😂)
“Ugh-!”
Considering she risked her life to protect me, stalking seems… not insignificant, but certainly not decisive.
“So. What will you do, Yuichi-dono?”
“Darling, Yairo-neechan’s pitiful…”
“Indeed. Yuichi-sama, now is the time to show your resolve as a man.”
“It’s not like Yuichi-san being lecherous is anything new.”
“Exactly. That’s why we can all get along like this. At this point, none of us are going to complain about another wife being added.”
All five of my wives press in on me from every side.
“So, Yuichi. What’s your decision?”
Arisa steps right up into my personal space.
I suppose I must accept it.
“I will take responsibility.”
And so, as a result of the battle with the Demon King’s Army, I somehow ended up welcoming a sixth wife.
