Konbini Ossan Volume 8 Chapter 21 — The Beast King’s Pride
He likely understands that if things continue like this, he will lose. At last, Leonis makes a bold move.
“Don’t think it’ll go that smoothly!”
With that shout, Leonis charges straight toward Marceline. And he does so while using his already injured, nearly useless arm as a shield.
“That won’t be enough!”
However, this level of action seems to have been within Marceline’s expectations.
Without showing the slightest panic, she swings her blade to drive Leonis back while retreating to create distance.
“Nughnn!”
But Leonis’s aim was not simply to close the distance. He slams his fist down at a point that would never reach Marceline.
His fist crashes hard into the floor, and at the same time, the magic contained within it detonates.
A powerful shockwave erupts in all directions, forcing both Marceline and Leonis apart.
And that was his objective: to create both distance and time.
Leonis immediately crosses his arms and begins to raise his magical power.
“Behold! This is the pride of the Beast King!”
As he roars, Leonis’s body begins to transform before our eyes. Larger. More bestial.
Soon, the figure that once resembled a man with a lion’s head becomes something closer to a lion walking upright.
“I won’t let you!”
Of course, Marceline does not simply stand by. Regaining her balance from the shockwave in an instant, she charges the moment she sees his transformation.
But her sword strike is easily swatted aside by Leonis’ tail, which moves forward to intercept it.
“What?!”
“This is my ultimate technique! The secret art of my clan, Beast King Descent! Human, I acknowledge you as a warrior. I shall settle this with my greatest technique!”
“Damn it!”
Leonis declares this with complete composure. And no wonder, Marceline’s slashes are being blocked repeatedly by nothing more than his tail.
Faced with such an obvious shift in power, even Marceline cannot hide her tension.
However, a self-enhancement technique of this magnitude must come with a drawback.
Perhaps a time limit. Perhaps a heavy toll on his stamina. Or perhaps his speed has decreased due to his increased size; though judging from the tail’s agility and quickness, that seems unlikely.
If that is the case, Marceline’s path to victory lies in enduring until Leonis’ transformation ends.
Naturally, she appears to realize this at once. She stops launching slashes that are being intercepted and quickly retreats.
“I won’t allow it!”
Leonis gives chase. It seems he has now matched Marceline’s speed, closing in on her as she retreats and throwing a punch.
“Tch! So powerful!”
Despite the strain on her expression, Marceline meets the punch with her magitech saber. Fist and blade collide, but the saber is easily knocked aside, and Marceline loses her footing.
“Got you!”
“Not yet!”
Leonis-san seizes the opportunity and swings his fist.
But Marceline has not given up. She activates a certain function installed within the TA.
In the next instant, nearly all the armor parts that had been covering her body are explosively purged away (popped off).
