Konbini Ossan Volume 8 Chapter 20 — Transcend Armor
At last, the fourth checkpoint begins. Marceline and Leonis take their positions and ready themselves.
Leonis, seemingly specializing in hand-to-hand combat, raises his fists. Marceline raises her magitech saber, which is connected to the TA by a cable.
With the assistance of the TA, the magitech saber surpasses even the custom models used by Tio and Tiana in output and performance.
Its attribute is Marceline’s lightning, crackling with blue-white arcs of electricity.
It is a magitech saber whose mere sight is intimidating.
Yet Leonis remains completely unfazed, calm, though unable to conceal his overflowing fighting spirit.
Judging that both are ready, I declare the start.
“Then… the fourth round, begin!”
The moment I speak, the battle commences.
Marceline makes full use of her speed and dashes forward. With the jet-assisted propulsion at her feet from the TA, she glides forward at tremendous speed.
Leonis stands firm, seemingly intending to counter.
“Hah!”
“Hnn!”
Marceline’s magitech saber flashes in a slash, and Leonis twists his body to evade its trajectory. Even as he dodges, he attempts a sweeping leg strike aimed at Marceline’s footing.
Marceline instinctively leaps lightly to avoid it. Judging that she cannot maneuver in midair, Leonis throws a punch.
It is fast and heavy, yet Marceline, while airborne, activates the jets at her feet to retreat backward and receives the blow.
The impact is sufficiently reduced, and she lands as though she has taken no damage at all, absorbing the shock of the strike without issue.
Leonis, aware that his punch did not land fully, shows no agitation and keeps his gaze fixed on her.
“Hm… That lightning magic, and sword strikes so swift they could be mistaken for streaks of light. So you were the commander known as ‘Thunder Flash’?”
“Well? I can't say I don't remember being called that before.”
As they glare at one another, they gradually circle, each searching for an opening.
From my perspective, Marceline surpasses him in speed. However, Leonis appears superior in stamina and raw strength.
Will Marceline overwhelm him with speed and wear him down? Or will Leonis manage to catch her and deliver a blow powerful enough to pierce the TA’s defenses?
That seems to be the nature of this match.
Just as it seems the fight has reached a stalemate, Marceline makes the first move.
“Here I go!”
She dashes forward at high speed once more. As before, Leonis braces for a frontal attack.
But that proves to be a mistake.
“What?!”
Contrary to Leonis’ expectation that she would attack head-on, Marceline pivots at a right angle at the last instant, with almost no loss of speed, slipping to his side.
This is the true strength of the TA’s mobility support.
In addition to jet-assisted propulsion at her feet, she manipulates magical power to alter her motion vector. The combination enables movements utterly impossible for a normal human.
With this unexpected maneuver, Marceline launches an attack from an unforeseen direction. The lightning flash of her magitech saber catches Leonis’s arm.
“Guh!”
Leonis attempts to evade at the last moment, but he still sustains a wound on his arm that is far from shallow.
On top of that, lightning magic inflicts additional damage, leaving one of his arms impaired enough to limit its movement.
Seizing the opportunity, Marceline continues her assault.
Circling to his side while using his injured arm as a shield against him, she unleashes repeated slashes.
It is a bold offensive made possible precisely because retaliation is nearly impossible. Leonis struggles to respond, unable to mount a proper counterattack.
Forced into pure defense, he can only evade, while the magitech saber occasionally grazes his body, steadily accumulating damage from the lightning.
If this flow continues, Marceline will likely win.
However, Leonis may yet possess a trump card, just as Satira did. The true battle may only just be beginning.
