Konbini Ossan Volume 8 Chapter 18 — Joan’s Reward
The third checkpoint ends, for the time being, with Joan’s victory.
However, judging by her condition, she does not appear to have any strength left to continue fighting.
To have her face Leonis next, who should be of even higher rank than Satira, would be unreasonable.
I approach the members of the Demon King’s army who were observing and make a proposal.
“Everyone. The third gate has concluded, for now, with Joan-san’s victory. However, if we proceed with another match, the outcome is already obvious.
…
Therefore, would you consider allowing the Demon King’s army to pass the third gate by default victory?”
“Hm. That is not a bad proposal.”
Vladgaria responds positively to my suggestion and immediately turns her gaze toward Leonis.
“However, it would be Leonis’s turn next, would it not? Setting me aside, Leonis likely wishes to fight a strong opponent.”
“Indeed, as Her Majesty says.”
Leonis nods in agreement, then continues.
“However, striking down a completely exhausted opponent would be dull. I shall accept the proposal.”
“So it is decided, Otogi-dono.”
“Yes. Thank you.”
With the matter settled, I next head over to Joan and Satira.
“Good work, Joan-san.”
“I did great, didn’t I, darling!?”
Though she had seemed utterly exhausted, Joan leaps up and clings to me with surprising energy.
“Hehe. I won properly, so I can ask for an amazing reward, right?”
“Yes. As long as it is within reason, anything is fine.”
“Then, um…”

Fidgeting shyly, Joan states the reward she desires.
“I think… I’d like a child soon.”
At her words, I freeze for a moment.
At present, I have relations with all of my wives. However, we have been careful to use contraception to prevent pregnancy.
There is still much work I must accomplish, and the situation remains unstable.
If we were to have a child now, not only might I be unable to participate properly in raising them, but there would also be the risk of exposing them to danger.
That said, once matters with the Demon King’s army are resolved, the situation may change.
However, the contraceptive magic potion we use is one that the man takes to make it effective.
If I stop taking it, it will affect all of my wives, not only Joan.
“I understand. I will consider the matter positively. Let us discuss it together with everyone later.”
“Okay. I’ll be waiting, darling!”
With a blissful smile, Joan kisses my cheek.
As all this is happening, I notice Satira’s body twitch slightly. It seems she is regaining consciousness.
“Guh… this situation…”
Groaning, Satira pushes herself up and takes in her surroundings.
“I see… I lost.”
“Yes. However, it was nearly an even match. In the end, you have still cleared the third gate.”
When I say this in an attempt at consolation, Satira snorts in response.
“Hmph! I have no need of your consolation. I devote my full strength to the Demon King… that is all.”
In any case, with this, the third checkpoint comes to an end.
