Soul Devourer Chapter 3 Episode 19 — Results of "Operation:「Grimm Reaper」Suppression"

After dealing with「Grimm Reaper」that had been inciting riots in Nagano, Kyoto, and Hiroshima, I headed to a luxury hotel in Hiroshima that the Hunter Guild had arranged for me.

A hotel staff member guided me to my room, and I took loungewear and a bath towel before heading to the baths.

Since I clear dungeons almost every day, my body wasn’t tired at all, but the hectic travel had left me mentally exhausted.

After quickly washing my hair and body, I sank into the warm water up to my shoulders. It felt so good that a satisfying-yet-tired sigh leaked out of me without thinking.

Once I’d eased some of the fatigue, I went back and forth between the sauna and the cold bath several times, letting myself fully reset.

After washing away sweat and exhaustion in the baths, I enjoyed a buffet-style dinner.

Katsudon, ramen, assorted sashimi, steak; I piled on all my favorites until I couldn’t anymore, then returned to my room rubbing my stomach.

Feeling stuffed and uncomfortable, I lay down on the bed and fell asleep within seconds.

The next morning. I woke up feeling refreshed and headed for breakfast. Even though I’d eaten that much the day before, my appetite was already in full swing.

Breakfast was buffet-style as well. After white rice, grilled fish, and miso soup, I followed it up with French toast, bacon and eggs, and orange juice.

After going back for seconds a few times and feeling satisfied, I returned to my room and checked the results of「Grimm Reaper」battles.

When I cleared the A-rank dungeon in Hokkaido, my attributes were around [1,500].

And after dealing with roughly 60 members of「Grimm Reaper」at the guild master’s request, my attributes had increased by about ten times.

I’d also gained a few new skills, such as【Holy Magic】,【Debuff Magic】, and【Katana Arts】, etc.

The ones that caught my attention most were these three.

  • Proficiency with short blades (tantō), straight blades (chokutō) and other curved Japanese blades (like katana, uchigatana, tachi, odachi, wakizashi, etc.) increases.

  • Grants bonuses to attack and defense actions.

    Strength +6, Dexterity +6

【Flashdraw】Lv.6

  • Grants bonuses to the following series of actions:

    - Drawing the sword at god-like speed;

    - Post-strike blood flicking, and;

    - Sheathing.

    Dexterity +6

【Flashstep】Lv.3

  • Allows rapid rush towards opponent at speed: Agility × 3.3

  • Effective range: 10 meters in forward direction forward.

    Agility +3

【Katana Arts】and【Flashdraw】expand my tactical options, so they’re great, but【Flashstep】feels like a lower-tier version of【Warp】.

Its multiplier is higher than【Physical Boost】or【Dash】, but【Warp】lets me instantly get behind an enemy.

Still, if I fight normally using【Flashstep】and then use【Warp】to catch an opponent off guard, that’d be pretty lethal.

Or close the distance with【Flashstep】and then jump behind them with【Warp】?

“Yeah.【Flashstep】is usable.”

Now then, as for distributing surplus EXP and attributes; I’ll put surplus EXP into【Flashstep】and attributes into【Discernment】.

I reconsidered and decided that Magic Power and Luck are better the more I have, so I left them as is.

For direct combat stats, I set them to around [3,000]; enough leeway to comfortably handle S-rank-level fights.

With everything done, I checked out of the hotel, boarded the dedicated helicopter, and headed back to Tokyo.

【Swordsmanship】or【剣術】reads Kenjutsu, while【Katana Arts】or【刀術】reads Tōjutsu. Let's not talk of real world but RPG lingo:

While former means techniques involving all kinds of dual-edged, long or short or curved swords found outside Japan.

The latter is specific to Japanese single-edge swords mentioned under the【Katana Arts】skill description.

Btw, the straight blades (chokutō) can be seen used by Snake Eyes from G.I. Joe, or in Ichigo's Tensa Zangetsu from Bleach, or Raiden's HF Blade or Fox Blade for Metal Gear Rising! Check 'em out!

I had been thinking【Swordsmanship】already covered Katanas and was confused as to why did he get a redundant skill? And so… this is the reason why. All dual-edged curved blades except Katanas are covered.

This the problem with these Japanese authors, they didn't specify clearly! Thus, I'm an idiot for taking more than 2 hours to find this out! ORZ! Apologies for the delayed upload!
