Konbini Ossan Volume 7 Chapter 17 — Promotional Journey
As I was examining the structure of the Magitek Carriage, Maria spoke up.
“The driver’s seat was something Arisa-chan really worked hard on. Please take a look at it.”
“That’s true. Let’s have a look.”
That was surely the part Arisa struggled with the most. It would be wrong not to examine it properly.
I opened the door to the driver’s seat and stepped inside.
Inside the cockpit were a simple steering wheel, gauges showing speed and remaining magic power, a lever for selecting the power source, and various other components.
Everything was placed in positions that felt intuitive and easy to use, and it was clear that careful thought had gone into the design as well.
“Arisa. How does the control system work?”
“The steering is controlled with hydraulics, I think? There’s no circuitry involved there. The gauges, the power source control, and also the accelerator and brake all use circuits, though.”
“So the power source control uses transistors, I assume. And the accelerator and brake are circuit-controlled as well.”
“Yeah. In the end, everything runs on magic power. The accelerator controls the output from the power source using transistors and resistors, and the brake is basically the reverse.”
Considering that Arisa had virtually no knowledge of circuitry before this, she had put together something quite sophisticated.
“You really did great, Arisa. This is impressive.”
“Hehe. Well, it’s thanks to you teaching me all sorts of things, Yūichi.”
As she spoke, Arisa scratched her cheek shyly. Without thinking, I reflexively reached out and patted her head.
“All right, all right~! That’s enough checking and flirting for now!”
At that point, Shirley raised her voice. I removed my hand from Arisa’s head and turned to face Shirley.
“So, when are you planning to commercialize this Magitek Carriage?”
“I’d like to say soon, but actually, there’s something we want to do before that. We have a promotional plan.”
“A promotional plan?”
“Yes!”
Nodding cheerfully, Shirley went on to explain in more detail.
“To put it simply, we plan to visit nearby cities using this Magitek Carriage and promote the fact that our shop has developed a new product like this by showing it directly to people.
…
That way, it’ll naturally become a topic of conversation, and plenty of people should start wanting one.”
“I see. That certainly sounds necessary.”
I nodded, convinced by Shirley’s reasoning.
“And the best person to handle the promotion would be the one actually selling this magic tool, in other words, Otogi-san, the head of the magic tool shop!”
“Would it?”
“It would! And as support, it would also be appropriate for the three of us, the ones responsible for developing this Magitek Carriage, to accompany you!”
“Is that so?”
“Yes! It’s appropriate!”
Shirley’s enthusiasm was so strong that I found myself slightly taken aback.
Perhaps noticing this, Maria chuckled softly.
“Otogi-sama. In other words, Shirley wants to go on a trip with you.”
“A trip, I see.”
“Ah! Maria-san, we agreed you wouldn’t put it so bluntly!”
After Maria spelled it out, everything finally clicked for me.
Before marrying Arisa, a lot happened, but I had taken her along on business trips, which were, in other words, something like travels.
That gave us plenty of time alone together, but I had never really spent time like that with Shirley or Maria.
Of course, there were many occasions when I was alone with each of them during work.
But situations where we were alone together outside of work, purely in a private context, were practically nonexistent.
In other words, Shirley must have felt a bit envious of Arisa’s situation.
That was why she had used the promotion of the Magitek Carriage as a pretext, giving me a legitimate work-related reason to propose traveling together.
Since there really was promotional work to be done, it left me with no real reason to refuse.
Feeling a bit apologetic for having made her resort to such a roundabout proposal, and taking that reflection to heart, I decided to accept Shirley-san’s suggestion.
“All right. Let’s go on this promotional journey.”
“Really?”
For some reason, Shirley, the one who proposed it, asked back in surprise.
“Of course. Not just Arisa, but you two are important people to me as well. If anything, I apologise for not having been considerate enough in that regard until now.”
“N-No! Actually, I find that side of you, the part where you’re completely absorbed in your work, almost too serious… well, how should I put it… I find it quite appealing.”
Being told the details of someone’s affection so directly is rather embarrassing.
Before I realized it, Arisa was laughing as well, not just Maria. It seemed this promotional trip had been planned from the very beginning.
Thinking back on it, Shirley’s unusually high level of motivation made sense now. This reward must have been what drove her.
“Then, shall we move on to the next task for today?”
“Another task?”
“Yes. Let’s plan out the details of the promotional journey. We need to properly discuss which cities to visit, after all.”
“Y-Yes!”
And so, I ended up going on what were essentially two-person trips under the guise of promotional travel for the Magitek Carriage; first with Shirley, then with Maria, and finally with Arisa.
Each trip lasted about two weeks at most. We could only stop by two or three nearby cities, or travel to a slightly more distant city and return.
Still, even trips of that modest scale seemed to satisfy all three of them in their own ways.
After the promotional journeys concluded, full-scale sales of the Magitek Carriage began.
As expected, despite its high price, reservations poured in, and it became a highly popular product.

E/N:
Finally, that itch, of lack of romance with other harem members, is gone! I thank you from the bottom of my heart, Ossan!
More than that, Arisa-chan is amazing!
Stay tuned!
