Konbini Ossan Volume 7 Chapter 11 — Mana Dynamics
As Shuri-kun falls deep into thought after hearing my explanation, I move on to the next topic.
“That’s why I came today with a favor to ask you, Shuri-kun.”
“Hm hm, I see. So this is where it loops back around, Otogin?”
“Yes.”
I nod, finally getting to the real purpose of today’s visit.
“What I’ve told you so far is still nothing more than a hypothesis. Would you be willing to conduct experiments to verify it?
…
And if possible, I’d like you to define concrete numerical values and equations as well. If we can do that, it will make enchantment magic circles even more efficient.”
“So that’s what this is about. I get it. But are you just asking me to work for free?”
“No, not at all.”
I shake my head at Shuri-kun’s teasing remark.
“This discovery, the research into the hypothesis, and the paper itself… I want to publish all of it as a joint research project between you and me.”
At those words, Shuri-kun’s eyes go wide in surprise.
Joint research. In other words, it wouldn’t just mean that I entrusted him with experiments; it would also mean that this revolutionary discovery would be credited not only to me, but to Shuri-kun as well.
“Otogin, are you really sure about that? If I’m listed as one of the discoverers, that means you’d be giving up some of the benefits, fame, everything you should’ve gotten, and sharing it with me.”
“It’s precisely because you’d say something like that, Shuri-kun, that I want this to be joint research.”
I speak honestly, conveying my gratitude.
“You’ve done so much for me as my mentor. If this repays even a part of that debt, it’s more than worth it.”
“O-Otogin!”
With watery eyes, Shuri-kun throws himself at me.
“I’m really, truly lucky to have such a brilliant and kind disciple like you!”
“Haha, hearing that makes all my efforts worthwhile.”
“And on top of that, you’ve got that plain old-man face that’s totally my type, and-!”
“Um, does that part have anything to do with this?”
The conversation suddenly veers off course, so I step in to rein it back.
“Anyway, I get it now! When it comes to experiments, I’ve got more experience and ideas than you do, Otogin. Leave it all to me!”
“Yes, I’m counting on you, Shuri-kun.”
And just like that, I successfully entrusted the research into ‘magic particles’ to Shuri-kun.
From that point on, the study and theory surrounding magic particles would be given a name: Mana Dynamics.
After all, «Calculator» is merely a skill that derives answers from existing knowledge.
Designing experiments to prove an entirely new hypothesis, especially ones outside my own knowledge, is something I could never figure out no matter how much I thought about it.
That’s exactly why, in situations like this, it’s best to leave things to a true specialist like Shuri-kun.
After that, I spent more time discussing various topics with him before heading back to the magic tool shop.
In particular, we talked about the outlook once Mana Dynamics is proven… and what I plan to do next if the theory turns out to be correct.
By sharing those plans, we made sure we were fully aligned on the road ahead.

E/N:
Lit. translation → Magic Particle Dynamics; I changed it to Mana Dynamics, I hope it's fine?
Also, I'm finding this very informative, sans the lgbtq+ flair by the author, just me?
Stay tuned!
