Soul Devourer Chapter 2 Episode 6 — Who Are These Thugs?
Even after seeing me — the newly crowned fifth S-Rank Hunter — the thugs lounging in my living room didn’t so much as flinch.
Which meant they came here fully aware this was my home, and still chose to break in.
I recognised none of their faces.
We had no connection at all. I couldn’t think of anything I’d done that would make someone hold a grudge.
I forced down the anger bubbling up, exhaled slowly, and asked calmly.
“Where are my Dad and Mom? Are they safe?”
One of the thugs doubled over laughing, cackling like an idiot.
“Gya ha ha! Man, my stomach hurts. Watching you desperately hold back your anger is killing me! First thing you do is worry about your parents… what, we don’t even register to you?”
“...If I ask, will you tell me? Who you guys are.”
“Nope, not right now. But if you quietly come with us, you’ll find out soon enough.”
“Are my dad and mom there?”
“Who knows.”
These arrogant bastards were C-Rank Hunters at best, judging by their gear and stats.
I could take them down in seconds, but they were the only ones who might know where my parents were.
…Not that I believed any of them had the guts for real loyalty. If I left one alive and killed the rest, he’d talk.
They were acting tough because they thought they were valuable hostages of information.
Time to correct that delusion.

I said nothing and gripped Balmung in my right hand. That alone sent the thugs into a panic, hands flying to their daggers as they shouted.

“…You’re right. I wasn’t thinking straight.”
“Ha ha, I figured! Let’s take it easy, yeah? Now hurry up and kneel—”
“I was going to make you regret your attitudes by putting you through hell, but… sure. I’ll spare one. Just one of you walks out of here unharmed. Tell me where my parents are, and I’ll pretend today never happened.”
The thugs exchanged looks with each other, clearly torn.
If they hesitated this much even knowing I was an S-Rank Hunter, their boss had to be someone very powerful.
If they’re scared to talk despite facing me, then the one behind this is probably another S-Rank Hunter…
“Five seconds. Five… four… three… two… one—”
“O-Okay! We’re Hunters from the clan「Demon-fist Raiders」! Your parents were taken by our guys to the clan’s base building!”
“H-Hey!”
“You idiot! Aren’t you scared of Daiki!?”
So it was「Demon-fist Raiders」. No proof, but it’s probably retaliation for me finishing off that smug idiot who tried scouting me last time.
“I-I told you everything! Now let me—”
“You’re not going anywhere. Moron.”
I used【Warp】to move behind him and cut off his head.
“D-Damn you—!”
“No! I don’t wanna die—!”
