Konbini Ossan Volume 7 Chapter 3 — Permanent Soul Enchantment
“First, as a prerequisite, back then I discovered a new way to use enchantment magic.
By engraving a magic circle directly onto a person’s body, the enchantment circle acts on the soul, allowing the enchantment to persist semi-permanently.”
“Huh, that’s a thing? But isn’t that dangerous? You’re writing a magic circle directly onto someone’s body, right?”
Arisa’s doubt was completely reasonable.
“The magic circle itself doesn’t have any side effects. To begin with, when you use enchantment magic to grant a skill to someone, the magic is already acting on the person.
…
The magic itself has almost no chance of causing physical harm.”
“I see. Then why does my life end up in danger?”
“The problem isn’t the magic itself. The risk comes from two people being connected at the soul level through enchantment magic.”
Arisa tilted her head, not quite grasping what I meant, so I continued with a more detailed explanation.
“Specifically, you engrave a magic circle for skill sharing onto both people’s bodies. That creates a path between the two.
…
Through that path, if two people, A and B, share skills, A can, by their own will, have B use B’s skill. And the effect can also be activated on A’s side through that same path.
…
That’s the full mechanism of the skill-sharing enchantment circle I discovered.”
“And what about that is dangerous?”
“There’s a high chance that through that path, a connection forms between each other’s souls as well.”
When I said that, Arisa finally nodded, understanding.
“Oh, I get it. Basically, you end up sharing more than just skills.”
“Yeah. For the most part, the effects could even be seen as benefits, like making it easier to sense what the other person is thinking.
…
But if one person suffers an injury that threatens their life, the pain and suffering get shared with the other. And if one person dies, the other will probably die as well.”
Put simply, the two souls become linked as one. If one soul breaks, the other breaks too, and both fall together.
In any case, it was certain that my injuries would no longer be my problem alone.
“I see. That’s how it works.”
“Yeah. That’s why I decided not to use that magic. If something happened to me… dragging you into it, hurting you, or worst of all killing you too — I couldn’t bear that.”
“Okay. I finally understand what you’re saying.”
It seemed she really did understand, as Arisa nodded.
Then she said something completely unexpected.
“But I think you should do it.”
At that, I couldn’t help but stare at her in shock.
“Y-you’re serious?”
“Of course I am. That would make you the strongest, right? If you’re going to get hurt or die anyway, then it’s even more dangerous to do nothing.
…
And I don’t want to be the only one left alive either. I want to be with you until the end, Yūichi.”
Logically speaking, Arisa was right. If sharing our lives gave us greater strength, then the risk of being threatened by enemies would decrease.
In the end, it should let both of us live more safely.
Even so, I hated the idea that if something happened to me, Arisa would be sacrificed as well.
“Even so, I can’t accept it. If there were some accident, I don’t want to drag you into it.”
“I’d rather be with you than be left behind alone. Even then?”
“Yeah. Even then.”
We stared at each other in silence. After a while, Arisa suddenly spoke.
“Then I’ll divorce you!”
“W-what? No, that would be a problem!”
“Shut up! You still don’t understand anything, Yūichi, so what choice do I have!”
An angry Arisa launched into a tirade.
“You said we’d talk things through properly before deciding, didn’t you?! And now you’re already breaking that promise?
…
You’re deciding my happiness on your own, assuming this is how my future should be, and not listening to anything I’m saying at all! This is just like before! Nothing’s changed from before you married me!”
Hearing that, I finally understood how Arisa felt.
She was right. I really had been forcing my own way of thinking onto her all along.

E/N:
A very difficult choice to make for a newlywed husband. And also, their first fight as a new couple 😂!
But still… Soul Enchantment, huh, very interesting. This is a first for me!
Stay tuned!
