Konbini Ossan Volume 6 Chapter 27 — Caught in the Maze

Arisa and I ran out of the capital and kept going.

Following impulse alone, letting our thoughts and hearts steer our legs, we eventually reached a quiet spring deep in the forest outside the city.

There was no one around. Only then did I stop.

I set Arisa down, and still holding hands, we walked to the edge of the water.


“I’ve been lost for so long,” Arisa said, her voice thick with emotion.


“I didn’t know what to do. I thought… if I lived with my first love, with Yūichi onii-chan, maybe we’d get married someday. I sort of assumed that was my future.

But when you rejected me, everything fell apart. I couldn’t see anything anymore. It felt like I was trapped inside a maze.”


She began speaking about her heart — her real feelings — and I didn’t dare miss a single word.


“I couldn’t find my own happiness. I depended on my skill — the way you showed me how to use it — and just kept using it to decide everything for me.

And the last thing it pointed to… was marrying Marquis Roosevelt.”


Now I understood why she made that choice. Because I had been a fool. I’d dragged even her skill into my own mistakes.


“I kept thinking the exit must be that way. That my happiness had to come from doing something for you.

So I walked straight toward that. All the way to the engagement ceremony. But the maze never ended. I was still lost.”


“Arisa…”


I couldn’t stay silent. I stepped behind her and wrapped my arms around her shoulders. She placed her hands gently over mine and continued.


“And then… you came for me. You reached into the maze and caught me.”


Her words filled me with warmth and relief — confirmation that I’d done the right thing by coming.


“It was like a light suddenly appeared. Maybe it’s the wrong path. Maybe we’ll never reach the exit. But… I’m happy. Because you’re beside me, holding my hand.

Even inside the maze, there’s this warm light in my chest. I’m not scared anymore. I won’t hesitate anymore. For my own sake, I want to stay with you forever. I love you, Yūichi.”


Her hand tightened around mine. I answered by speaking from the deepest part of my heart.


“I love you too, Arisa. I kept making excuses. Hiding behind logic. I wasn’t honest. But I don’t want that anymore. You’re mine. More than anyone in the world, I love you. I don’t want to give you to anyone.
…
I want to stay with you forever. That’s why I came to steal you away. From now on, I won’t lose my way. I’m going to hold your hand and walk with you until the day I die.”


“Yeah… yeah!”


Her voice trembled. She was crying. I realized I was crying too.


“I’m sorry, Arisa. I hurt you so much because I was an idiot. And I’ll probably hurt you again. But even so… even if I’m stupid… I still want to stay with you.”


“It’s fine. I forgive you. Even if you’re the least cool man in the world, even if you’re the biggest loser ever, I still want to be next to you.
…
I’ll be selfish too. I’ll say unreasonable things and make trouble for you. But I’m stupid too, so I still want to be with you anyway.”


After confirming each other’s feelings, we both understood — without needing to say it — what came next.

We stepped apart, faced each other, and met each other’s gaze.


“Arisa.”


“Yūichi.”


I love you.

We said it at the same time, and after that, words were unnecessary.

We embraced each other tightly, then brought our lips together.

Once the dam broke, we kissed hungrily, deeply, as if devouring each other.

Soon, a kiss wasn’t enough. Still holding her, I gently lowered us to the ground. We rolled, shifting positions, until I was leaning over her.

She understood what I intended — what was about to happen — and instead of fear, she looked at me with a desperate, pleading expression.


“Come to me, Yūichi.”


That was the signal.

And there, beside the nameless spring,

Arisa and I learned one another.

We loved one another.

And as if engraving a mark that would never fade, we joined as one.
