Soul Devourer Chapter 1 Episode 66 — The S-Rank Dungeon
Staring down at the corpses of the two men, I thought through what came next.
Their master, the leader of「Demon-fist Raiders」, had ordered them to bring me in. If they didn’t return, he’d naturally suspect me.
And if that happened, he’d either come himself or send subordinates even stronger than these two.
I had zero intention of joining「Demon-fist Raiders」, so that would be a nuisance.
The simplest solution would be to go directly to the master, tell him their recruitment attempt was coercive, that I had no intention of joining, and that I wanted no further involvement.
“But with guys like this, talking it out probably won’t work. It’d just turn into a brawl.”
Thinking about that possible outcome made it clear that going myself would be a mistake. It was obvious these two had been killed by me, but there was no concrete proof.
They’d probably send people to question me. If those people tried anything rough, I’d respond accordingly.
After losing manpower once or twice, the clan would stop bothering me. That was the most realistic expectation.
Hopeful? Maybe. But the conclusion was the same: I wouldn’t make the first move.
Once I settled on that, I left their bodies untouched and walked away.

In Minato Ward stood the country’s one and only S-rank dungeon.
The four major clans —
「King of Sword」,「Demon-fist Raiders」,「Blaze Empress Brigade」, and「Valkyries of Restoration」
— took turns trying to conquer it, yet none had succeeded.
At the entrance to this highest-difficulty dungeon, a lone young man was completing the registration process.
“…Are you really planning to challenge it alone?”
“Yes. The headquarters staff tried to stop me too, but I intend to try it once.”
“…You seem determined, so I won’t say anything more.”
“Then, excuse me.”
With the admission process finished, I walked quickly through the gate.
The field before me was a harsh volcanic landscape. Far in the distance, pillars of lava erupted intermittently.
The ground beneath my feet was rugged, split by countless cracks filled with flowing magma.
Naturally, my gaze drifted upward—
So that’s a Flame Wyvern…
A colossal creature roughly fifty meters long, its body covered in blazing red scales, with jointed, huge pair of wings formed from its forelimbs.
Every so often, fire leaked from its jaws.
A single one could turn a major city into scorched ruins. And there were dozens of them weaving through the sky.
Their threat level sat at the upper end of A-rank, bordering S-rank. Even elite parties struggled to bring down one.
I pushed aside all traces of arrogance and drew my short swords as one of the Flame Wyverns locked eyes with me.
“I won’t let my guard down… but if possible, I want to take it down without damaging the materials.”
Even if it was a variant, a dragon was still a dragon. Its parts were incredibly valuable, so keeping them pristine was ideal.
As I was thinking that, the wyvern I’d exchanged glances with made its move.

Curious about existence of 'flying' type skill in monsters. And how can MC use it, without wings.
ReplyDeleteI always envision that these Dragon-type monsters don't really use their wings for flying, than for gliding. More like, their enormous mana helps them levitate and propulse forward.
DeleteThere should be a Chinese story about a dragon who realized that he don't need wings to fly, so he gifted them to some villager.
Delete'Realist Hero' did take on it as well, compared to birds dragons too fat to fly normally, so they magically 'swimming', and the wing are 'conductor'.
One Piece's Kaido do not flying but running on the clouds. ๐
Naden Delal, I need to catch up to that novel, brooooo...
DeleteKaido, lol!
