Soul Devourer Chapter 1 Episode 64 — Surprisingly Competent Opponents
…It felt strangely nostalgic.
Following behind those guys, I let myself sink into the memories.
It was in this very place that I first gained the ability to view my status, awakened a ridiculously rare Unique Skill, and became a true hunter.
Back then, I forced myself to strangle down the fear boiling inside me just to fight a goblin. I threw up again and again until I could stomach the dismantling work.
A lot happened after that… and now here I am, an A-rank hunter, just a step away from conquering an S-rank dungeon.
Lost in those thoughts and mentally patting my younger self on the back, I noticed the men ahead of me stop walking.
“This spot works.”
They turned, cracking their knuckles and necks in a way meant to intimidate.
“Alright. I’ll give you one last chance. Apologize for your attitude, get on your knees, and maybe I’ll just rough you up a little. What’s it gonna be?”
“I’ll give you a chance, too. If you apologize for that condescending attitude and kneel, I’ll let you return to your master without a scratch.”
“Tch! You really don’t stop being a smartass, huh-!”
The negotiation collapsed instantly. Our killing intent rose at the same time, the air around us tightening like a taut string.
The man clenched his fists by his waist, inhaled deeply through his nose, and exhaled sharply through his mouth before glaring at me.
(E/N: Imagine a karate practitioner storing potential energy in their fists, pulling it towards their waist.)
Then, he exploded forward.
His acceleration had real weight behind it, and the punch he threw carried sharpness and power.
But the fist coming straight for my face stopped in place, held in my one hand without effort.
The shockwave alone bent the surrounding trees.
The guy’s eyes widened at how easily I stopped him.
Before I could grab him, he quickly pulled his fist back and hopped away, twisting in midair to throw a sharp kick at my temple.
“—!”
I caught that too, and he sprang back to increase distance.
“…You can keep up with my moves… not bad. Didn’t think a fresh A-rank would be able to…”
“And you’re not just some rough-looking thug either. You’ve got real skill.”
Honestly, I was impressed. From those punches and kicks, it was obvious he actually had solid technique.
He didn’t get to A-rank by accident… but still…
His strikes had weight, sure, but nothing I couldn’t block easily. I also had no trouble reading his acceleration.
Even if he buffed himself a bit, handling him wouldn’t be difficult.
“So was that your ‘serious’ effort? You told me you’d beat me half to death.”
“That wasn’t serious!”
“Then stop testing the waters and show me what you’ve got. Your hits don’t hurt at all.”
“You asked for it! I’ll break you in half!”
He fell right for the provocation, repeating the same preparatory motion and closing in again.
But this time, instead of a punch or kick, he thrust a hand forward in an unfamiliar stance.
No idea what that technique was, but if I didn’t get it, best to avoid it. I dropped low and swept at his legs.
He hopped back immediately, reset his stance, and white steam began rising from his body. Once more, he launched the same strange attack.
Staying cautious, I rotated my hips and unleashed a spinning kick. He bent back to dodge it and countered with the same hand motion from the opposite side.
We repeated this exchange several times, dodging each other’s blows. But eventually he failed to evade my spinning kick.
He tried blocking with his arm—
…and his arm snapped like a twig, sending him flying.

E/N:
Sassuga, Yuito-sama!
This thug's probably sending his Qi/Ki flying or something… Even though he has such cool power, he works for a bastard!
What a waste, rest in peace, warrior, what with that broken arm and a huge gap in stats… 😭
Stay tuned!
