Soul Devourer Chapter 1 Episode 50 — The Endless Swarm of Lesser Monsters
After leaving the「Blaze Empress Brigade's」headquarters, I took the train to an A-rank dungeon in Setagaya.
The field before me was shrouded in dense fog. I couldn’t see far ahead, and the chilly air brushed softly against my cheeks.
This was a dungeon similar to the one where I’d once saved that lady — Takahashi Izumi-san — from those thugs. Pertaining to that, the monsters here were undead.
I advanced cautiously, senses sharp, when I felt something flying toward me. Reacting instinctively, I dodged.
Turning to look, I saw a massive blade of wind slicing through the thick fog behind me. Someone had cast【Wind Magic】— but I couldn’t see who.
I moved toward the direction the spell had come from. A pale-blue magic circle flickered in the mist, and from it emerged ten Skeleton Knights.
“Huh? This is supposed to be an A-rank dungeon. Why are C-rank monsters showing up here?”
For a moment I couldn’t make sense of it, but I calmed myself and considered the possibility that they only looked like Skeleton Knights.
Yet when I checked their stats with【Appraisal】, they were, unmistakably, Skeleton Knights. Which raised another question.
“Then who used that【Wind Magic】just now?”
Skeleton Knights didn’t possess【Wind Magic】. Which meant there was another, unseen caster nearby.
I swiftly cut down all ten Skeleton Knights, only to feel a surge of mana beneath my feet. I leapt away — just as a pillar of fire erupted where I’d been standing.
Immediately afterward, water formed at my feet, and chains of liquid coiled around my limbs. Before I could react, countless earthen spears came flying toward me.
I tore the chains apart with brute strength, slicing the incoming spears with my daggers. Then another magic circle appeared ahead, summoning another ten Skeleton Knights.
The Skeleton Knights themselves weren’t a problem — but if this kept up, things would turn ugly.
The constant flow of enemies would wear down both stamina and mana, and those high-powered spells raining from afar were steadily eating at my focus.
The desert had been harsh — but this place was just as fitting for an advanced dungeon.
I dodged falling fireballs and another wave of slicing wind, then sprinted in the direction the magic was coming from. Finally, I caught sight of the culprit.
A skeletal figure draped in black robes, wielding a staff tipped with a tiny skull — a Lich.
“Found you! Die!”
Before it could finish casting, I closed the distance and slashed it apart. The blade met solid resistance — its bones were much tougher than the Skeleton Knights’.
“If I were still using my old dagger, this would’ve been impossible. Talk about perfect timing.”
