Soul Devourer Chapter 1 Episode 37 – The Mysterious Hunter

After defeating the Troll King and returning to the other hunters, I was greeted by a loud cheer.

Those who had raised their fists to the sky or were hugging each other in joy rushed over all at once, tears streaming down their faces as they thanked me.

It all happened so suddenly that I was a little taken aback, but their feelings came through loud and clear, and my heart swelled with a deep sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

However, this wasn’t the time to be basking in celebration.


“Ah, um! I understand how everyone feels, truly. But we still have injured people who need treatment. Please, lend a hand!”


The hunters around me snapped back to their senses. I joined them, tending to the seriously injured and helping carry out the bodies trapped beneath the rubble.

Once the immediate situation had settled, a staff member from the Hunter Guild approached me.


“Thank you for your hard work. I’m Sakamoto from the Hunter's Guild. We’re deeply grateful for your help in ending the stampede.”


“As a hunter, I only did what was expected of me.”


As the guild staff member bowed deeply, I scratched my cheek, feeling a little embarrassed.


“You’re quite humble. May I have your name and rank?”


“I’m Matsubara Yuito. C-Rank.”


“…Huh?”


When I showed her my hunter license, Sakamoto let out a startled sound, looking back and forth between my face and the card.


“M-My apologies! Actually, Guildmaster Ogawa wishes to personally thank you. Could you come to the guild tomorrow?”


It’s only natural for a hunter to respond to a stampede. I’d already received her thanks — there was no real need to go see the Guildmaster.

Truthfully, I just don’t want to deal with higher-ups…


“I’m sorry, but I’ll have to decline.”


“…U-Understood! Then, please excuse me.”
