Having achieved my objective, I was dismantling when【Stench Detection】alerted me to several figures drawing closer.

Looking over, I saw rough-looking men with shady smiles on their faces. Heightening my guard, I slowly stood and asked their business.


“…Do you need something?”


“Don’t be so wary. We were just worried about you. A C-rank dungeon is dangerous if you’re solo, you know. Or perhaps your party members are nearby?”


Should I lie and say I have companions? No, no party would leave one member behind while the others scout. It would be exposed immediately.


“I’m alone.”


“I see. As I said, it’s dangerous to be solo here. That’s why, temporarily, we’ll let you join our party. That way we can defeat monsters more safely and efficiently, right?”


At first glance, it seemed like a kind offer out of concern for me. But thinking about party coordination and how rewards are split, it felt more like a disadvantage for them.

Besides, to put it bluntly, they didn’t look like the type to go out of their way to help others.


“Thank you. But I can manage just fine on my own.”


“Don’t say that. We’ll split the rewards properly, and we’ll escort you all the way out of the dungeon. As seniors, we can’t just abandon a junior alone.”


“Really, I’m fine.”


“...Tch. Hah, you’re a stubborn brat. Wasting your Senpai’s kindness. Fine then. As a senior, I’ll teach you one important lesson.”

“In a dungeon, monsters aren’t the only enemies. Especially someone like you, showing off solo — you’re prime prey.”


So, as expected, they were a PK party that deliberately targeted other Hunters.


“Don’t think you can run. There are four of us, and only one of you. Let’s see… If you drop everything you own and walk away, maybe we’ll spare your life.”


Even if I complied, they’d just kill me to silence me. With four of them, the numbers were against me. Best option here was to retreat.

Fortunately, I had gained skills from the Kobold Assassin that would help in this exact situation.


“Alright. What do you want me to do?”


“Put all your belongings at your feet. Then, take three steps back.”


Pretending to obey, I made a show of placing my longsword down — then in the next instant, I bolted in the opposite direction.

They shouted furiously and gave chase. I suddenly shifted direction, activating【Stealth】to completely erase my presence.


“Huh!? H-he vanished all of a sudden!?”


“Where the hell did he go!?”


“Don’t you dare let him escape! Spread out!”


Their voices gradually grew more distant. The skill’s duration ended, and my body reappeared, but I quickly hid behind a tree’s shadow to observe their movements.


“Phew… somehow managed to shake them off. But those guys will keep searching for me for a while.”


It would be troublesome to look for the boss room while keeping watch for them.

If I wanted to avoid unnecessary problems, I’d need to either come back another day or try a different dungeon.

Now then, what should I do…
