Konbini Ossan Volume 4 Chapter 9 — An Encounter in the Courtyard
“Hm… this is troublesome.”
Muttering to myself, I walked through the palace courtyard.
First Shirley, now even Marceline had misunderstood me.
Being approached by so many women was flattering, of course, but the timing couldn’t be worse. It was far too early to think about settling down.
At the very least, I needed to make the factory a success first.
I had to build a system that could generate profit even without my direct involvement — one that would grow larger than anything I could personally manage.
Once that was in place, then and only then would it be fine to take Shirley or Marceline as wives.
I’d be able to keep my own time and continue accumulating power.
In short, as long as I kept improving the way I was, things would work out.
Still, I couldn’t be certain it would all go smoothly. After all, the whole situation started with a misunderstanding, and I had no idea where things might get tangled next.
If I simply turned that misunderstanding into truth — if I actually married all of them — everything would technically be resolved.
But I couldn’t do that just yet. There was no telling how quickly things might change.
Which meant that “marrying everyone” might not even be a proper solution in the end.
“Well, thinking about it won’t help much.”
I sighed, reaching that familiar conclusion, and ended what must’ve been my umpteenth lap around the courtyard.
Time to head back to the reception room. It was about time for the ennoblement ceremony meeting.
“Hm?”
Something flickered at the edge of my vision. When I turned, I saw a young girl watching me from behind a hedge.
“Is something the matter?”
As I walked closer, I studied her quietly. Long hair that nearly hid her expression. She looked familiar — one of the summoned heroes.
If I remembered correctly, her name was Nanakamado Yasaki. Her mysterious aura and striking name had left an impression on me.
She seemed eager to speak. Whatever the reason, it was convenient. A good chance to build a connection with one of the heroes.
“Was there something you wanted to say?”
“Um, well…”
When I asked, she hesitated, then finally spoke.
“You’ve finally come to take me away, haven’t you — my beloved!”
“…Pardon?”
(E/N: Yandere delulu incoming 😂)
The words caught me completely off guard, and I made a strange noise in response.
“Uh, could you explain what this is about?”
“I’ve been waiting for you all this time. I knew that one day, your kind heart would forgive my sins and come to bring me home!”
I had no idea what she was talking about. Sins? Forgiveness? None of it made any sense.
“Um… I’m not following. Could you explain in detail?”
“Yes! Ask me anything you wish, my beloved!”
“First of all, what’s this ‘beloved’ business?”
When I asked, Yasaki tilted her head.
“It means exactly what it sounds like. You are the one dearest to me, so that is what I call you.”
“So, you’re saying… you’re in love with me?”
“You don’t remember?”
Her face fell, eyes clouded with sadness. But since I had absolutely no clue what she was talking about, I couldn’t meet her expectations.
“Well, if you don’t remember, then I’ll tell you everything from the beginning.”
“Ah… please do.”
It seemed Yasaki was willing to explain the situation herself.
“It was back when I was in my third year of middle school.”
I see. So before being summoned to this world — back in modern Japan. Though I couldn’t recall ever meeting her, maybe I’d just forgotten.
“I was a gloomy girl with no friends, and one day I stopped by the convenience store where you were working to buy a lunch box.”
That sounded plausible enough. Something must have happened there for her to remember me so vividly.
“And after paying for my food, as I was about to leave…”
“Yes? And then?”
“You looked at me and said, ‘Thank you very much,’ with such a gentle smile.”
“…Well, I was a store clerk, after all.”
“From that moment, I was completely taken by your kindness.”
“…I’m sorry, but I’m not following at all.”
The conversation had jumped several steps ahead, and my brain couldn’t keep up.
“In short, I fell in love with that kindness at first sight.”
“I… see.”
I see indeed.
In other words, this girl was clearly a bit strange.

E/N:
Bit is an understatement! It's like the men equivalent of a female cashier exchanging pleasantries with a male customer and the latter misunderstanding it as kind words of someone who's interested!
Sweet yandere is ok! Ret*rded one is not! Run Ossan!
Stay tuned!
