Konbini Ossan Volume 3 Chapter 22 — Combat Experience and the Know-How of Adventuring

Once the commotion over my level had settled down, we were finally able to resume exploring.

The area where golems appear is considered one of the least dangerous zones.

Golems are mindless creatures that move automatically, so they don’t lay traps or attempt ambushes.

That makes this place the perfect training ground for beginner adventurers.

Since multi-dungeons are artificially created and adjusted to be low-difficulty, the common practice is for new adventurers to gain their first experience here.

Naturally, I followed that precedent.

The plan was simple: first I’d defeat the golems to power-level them up to stats comparable to novice adventurers.

After that, I would let the five handle dungeon exploration on their own while I supervised, giving pointers and guidance along the way.

This way, each of them could gain ability suited to their level.

Tiana-chan and Tio-kun, who wanted to become adventurers, of course. But I also wanted Arisa-san to acquire those same self-sufficiency skills.

For Joan-kun and Rosa as well, having adventuring ability as an option would serve them well in the future.

That said, being an adventurer is ultimately a dream-chasing occupation. It offers the lure of striking it rich, but as a livelihood, it’s far from ideal.

I intend to show the children a better path for their future.

Still, having insurance against the worst-case scenario never hurts.

And so, after the initial leveling was done, I decided to entrust them with exploration.

Which meant, first, more leveling.

After roughly half a day of dungeon runs, the five had grown remarkably.

Their growth was roughly as expected. Joan-kun’s higher endurance was likely due to his skill «Indomitable».

As for Arisa, her faster level growth may well be tied to her status as a Hero.


“With stats like these, none of the golems around here should pose any danger. I think it’s about time I left the exploration to all of you.”


“Alright! Leave it to me, Ossan!”


Joan-kun puffed out his chest with confidence. Considering the future, it seemed best to let him take the lead.


“Then, Joan-kun, I appoint you as the party leader.”


“Leader?”


“Yes. You’ll give directions to the others and guide the adventure. Can I count on you?”


“Got it! If you say so, Ossan, I’ll do it!”


This gave Joan-kun the opportunity to learn how to act as a leader. Next, I had to decide on positions for the others.


“Arisa-san, I’d like you to guard the four and serve as rearguard alongside me.”


“Alright, understood.”


Arisa moved to stand beside me.


“Tio-kun and Tiana-chan both have attributes, so supporting with magic from the rear would be best. Rosa as well.
…
That said, Rosa, you probably don’t know how to use magic yet. Learn from Tio-kun and Tiana-chan.”


“Understood, Ojisan.”


“Leave it to us, Ojisan.”


“I-I’ll do my best!”


With that, everyone’s positions were decided. At last, their first adventure as a party was about to begin.

Well— with me as their guardian, of course.
