Konbini Ossan Volume 1 Chapter 31 – The Banished Girl
After receiving today’s payment from Shirley, I headed to a real estate agent.
We chatted briefly, and then I ended up heading back to the Adventurer’s Guild.
Apparently, with the amount of money I have, I can afford not just to rent a place, but to buy a property along with the land.
However, in order to purchase land, a simple ID like the guild card isn’t enough — I need formal identification documents.
So I returned to the guild to request the issuance of official ID paperwork.
———
It was 9 a.m. — peak crowding hours.
Just as expected, the guild was crowded. I reluctantly joined the line and eventually made it to the counter, where I explained that I needed identification documents issued.
The staff told me it would take some time and asked me to wait.
So I ended up sitting on a sofa in a corner of the guild while I waited.
As I sat and absentmindedly watched the flow of people, I heard the guild doors open again as someone entered.
Without thinking much, I turned my gaze toward the entrance.
“…Oh?”
I couldn’t help but speak aloud.
Standing there was a familiar face—skin tanned as if from a salon, unnaturally bright bleached blonde hair, and sharp eyes that used to be soft and gentle.
It was Arisa Mikimoto, a student from Mutsugaya High School, the one who dragged me into this hero summoning mess.
Also… she’s my niece.
But this is strange.
Heroes are supposed to be protected by the royal palace — or more accurately, monitored and confined under the guise of protection.
So why would one of them be here at the guild, all alone no less?
Looking closer, she wore a visibly anxious and tense expression.
I kept watching her, curiosity getting the better of me. As her uncle, I couldn’t help but feel concerned — especially seeing her all alone, so uneasy.
After wandering around the guild a bit, Arisa seemed to finally make up her mind and joined the line at the reception counter.
As she inched forward, her worried expression never changed.
After about 10 minutes, she reached the counter. I couldn’t hear what she was saying from here, but I couldn’t help wanting to know.
So I used my skill: «Eavesdrop».
«Eavesdrop» is a skill originally used by a dungeon monster called the Wall Mimiary.
This creature camouflages itself as a wall, listens to sounds around it, and pounces on unsuspecting prey.
Ridiculous as it sounds, the creature exists.
The skill allows the user to filter and focus on specific sounds — even in a noisy area — if they stay perfectly still.
The key condition is that you must not move at all. It’s a bit tough for humans, but manageable.
So, I activated the skill and focused.
“I heard I can make a living if I become an adventurer,” Arisa said bluntly to the receptionist.
Looks like she’s trying to become an adventurer.
But that’s easier said than done. The receptionist gently corrected her:
“If you register with our guild as an adventurer, you can accept requests and receive payment upon completion.
…
Also, you’ll receive an adventurer ID, known as a Guild Card, which can serve as a basic form of ID.
…
It’s accepted at inns and for rental agreements as well.”
Interesting. I hadn’t known that inns required ID too. I’ve never used one before — I’ve always stayed awake through the night.
I did visit a public bath once to clean up, though.
“I don’t really get it, but as long as I can do some work and get money, then fine. Sign me up.”
“Understood. Then please fill out this form.”
So… Arisa is becoming an adventurer. Looks like we’ll be in the same field.
I hope we can get along — she may be a bit of a delinquent, but she’s still my niece… and honestly, she’s cute.
(E/N: NO! Just no, Uncle!)
After filling out the form, she handed it back to the receptionist.
“Is this okay?”
“There are a few things I need to ask first, if that’s alright?”
“Yeah, sure. What?”
“You’ve marked that you have no family. Could you explain that? Also, you left the residence section blank.”
“I have parents, but I can’t rely on them right now. And I left the house — I got kicked out, okay? What do you expect me to do?”
…Oh?
That’s a bombshell.
It seems Arisa was kicked out of the royal palace.
I suppose being a hero isn’t all sunshine and roses. She’s been through some stuff.
Still, that’s appalling. What kind of people kick a child out into the streets like that?
She has no idea how to survive in this world. She might go hungry, struggle to find a place to sleep…
That’s not okay. Kids like her deserve to eat three meals a day. They should have a warm place to sleep.
As I listened, one thought began to solidify in my mind.
A decision I knew I was about to make.

E/N:
Honestly, I feel for Arisa but her attitude is somewhat… off-putting. Anyway, is Ossan going to be her white knight! Not that that is any appropriate in the first place!

ReplyDeleteThree months pulling all-nighters to gather herbs and level up and he visits the public bath...once. Oooookay my dude. I'm going to just tell myself he rinses off in a river while he's out gathering or something...
Ossan a freak, don't even expect that much from him 🤣
