Soul Devourer Chapter 8 Episode 11 — Reunion and Recent Developments
After finishing my reports to the Guildmaster, I used【Void Magic】integrated into【Axiom】to teleport directly to the Chinese Hunters Guild headquarters.
In the blink of an eye, the scenery changed, and appearing before me was China’s new Chairman, Jin, sitting behind his desk.
“…Hm? H-Hunter Matsubara!?”
Jin was so surprised that he shot to his feet, his chair scraping loudly against the floor. But he quickly regained his composure and bowed deeply.
“Ahem… My apologies. And it has been a while, Hunter Matsubara.”
“Please raise your head, Jin-san. How have things been with China’s Hunters since then?”
At my words, he raised his head and answered while looking me straight in the eye.
“To be honest, we still haven't produced a Hunter worthy of〈Kowloon〉, let alone a〘Regalia〙. We have managed to develop Hunters comparable to the lower-tier Dragons of〈Kowloon〉, but as for〘Regalia〙, we're still a long way off…”
“Hunters with Unique Skills are rare, after all. Even so, as expected of a major Hunter nation, you've already secured Hunters comparable to the lower-tier Dragons of〈Kowloon〉.”
“Yes. We have a large Hunter population.”
“Then it's only a matter of time. I don't know whether they'll surpass the previous〘Regalia〙, Wang Haoran, but I'm sure a Hunter worthy of the title will eventually emerge.”
“Fortunately, we've been able to control the information. Other countries still believe that〈Kowloon〉and our〘Regalia〙remain intact, so we should be able to buy ourselves some time… But why have you come to China, Hunter Matsubara?”
“I came to conquer the SS-Rank dungeon.”
“R-Really!?”
“Yes. I've conquered the SS-Rank dungeons in my own country and America, so I thought I'd clear the SS-Rank dungeons in China, India, and Russia as well.”
“That would be an incredible benefit to us. If you don't mind, we'll purchase the monster materials and information you obtain. Please, we'd be grateful if you would!”
“Sure, that's fine. By the way, could you tell me what China has done so far?”
“We've kept the First through the Fifth Dragon of〈Kowloon〉in reserve for national defense purposes, but we've dispatched 2-3 high-ranking S-Rank parties.”
“…And the result?”
Jin weakly shook his head.
“Not a single one of them returned.”
“I see…”
“Once we determined that even multiple high-ranking S-Rank parties were no match for it, we stopped sending in any more forces. Fortunately, there hasn't been a Stampede.”
“I see. It's certainly a situation that leaves no room for complacency. By the way, having conquered two SS-Rank dungeons myself, I can tell you that SS-Rank dungeons are impossible to conquer unless you're a〘Regalia〙.”
“They're really that difficult…?”
“Yes. So your decision was the right one, Jin-san. No matter how many Hunters you send in, you'd only be sending them to their deaths for nothing.”
“This may be an unnecessary concern, but… Are you yourself going to be all right, Hunter Matsubara?”
“Well, an opponent with powerful skills can be troublesome, but I won't lose.”
“As expected of you. After all, you took on America all by yourself and won.”
“There were various circumstances behind that… No, that's beside the point. So, could you take me to the SS-Rank dungeon right away?”
“Leave it to me. I'll arrange a car immediately.”
After leaving the Guild headquarters, I got into the back seat of the car parked in front of the building.
Jin got in as well, apparently planning to accompany me to the site.
The Guild employee settled into the driver's seat and started the engine. The car quietly pulled away.
